Emisions! Failed Help!
im so mad, i have the budget exaust, bought the car like that, took for emsions, failed, too high in hydrocarbons, dont know what to do. thinking of 02 sensors, or getting a cat, dont know what to do, final notice, any suggestions?????
ha you don't have a cat?? get one because it's illegal to not have one...and will probably cause you to fail not having one...
also, when's the last time you got a tune up? i've heard good things about sea foam and various other stuff like that...give us more info. that still sux though, goodluck.

umm...no cat? Are you serious? Wow....
if you don't have a cat on, put it back on, if the car didnt' come with one, get an RT cat fast....you don't get much time to fix it, i think it's 30 days. But come on, seriously, that's a no brainer! I hope i misread this and that it turns out you actually do have a main cat on the car. If you don't, well...you don't belong under the hood....

I'm thinking that he has a cat... and he means that he wants to get a new cat.
I wouldn't recommend a new cat. Make sure that your car is warm when they test it. Check your CEL for O2 sensor codes. If your only mod is a budget y-pipe, you should pass.

High HC is probably the cat "or lack of" at fault. Maybe 02 or clogged air filter too. Check your air filter, if it's really dirty no air gets to the engine and you run rich (and don't burn enough off).
Unless you want to try swapping parts (cat, O2 sensors) take it to a IM240 trained shop like Tahoe Mobil and have them test your emissions.

Did you get a graph for repair diagnostics from the station? That'll show at which points the HC was the worst.
My HC last time was 1.35gpm. I'll help anybody here on the .org avoid repeating my last repair nightmare of 2001.
Oh, and did you know you can do a voluntary test in IL for $20.00 that won't count against your official passes/fail attempts.
