Climate control stopped working in Maxima SE 1995
Hello guys,
I have dark green Maxima SE 1995, and my climate control doesn't work anymore since last year. I visited three mechanics, two said that my A/C evaporator and condenser have a few holes, and cooling fluid leaked out. They said that repair will cost me around $800. Third one said that repair will cost much more since some other stuff like some valve, joints, etc are bad too (sorry, I am not expert in car mechanics stuff), and asked for three times more money. He said that even if I fix evaporator and condenser, it won't work longer then few weeks due to some other parts failure.
Now the problem is that I really don't want to go through another summer with no climate control since summers here are very hot and humid. On another side, my maxima is 9 years old, and I can not sell it for more then $5-6 000, if even that. So I am not sure what to do? I really like maxima, and I replaced a lot of parts (clutch, sensors, alternator, starter, etc) so I would like to keep it, it is great car. But it doesn't make sense to spend half of what is worth to fix climate control. Also, I am not sure that replacing evaporator and condenser will fix the problem. I would like to get your opinion, what you would do if you were in my shoes? Thanks in advance
