Fuel filter question

Yesterday I was trying to replace my fuel filter but the tubes would not come off. Is there anyway to take them off ?

Take WD-40 and spray it between the tubes and the filter. Then crimp the lines so no fuel spills. After that, take a panel popper, or something similar, and wedge it in there and pry it off. If you dont have a panel popper, something similar might work too.

First take out the fuel pump fuse. Just get a tiny screw driver and get it under the hose. After you get the top one off you can flip the filter around so that the bottom one is now on top.

Take the fuel pump fuse out, start the car and let it die so tehre is no fuel in the lines.

fuel filter replacement = evil

For me, it took 1 and half hours to replace!!! I was sitting on top of my battery, air box, and manfold for atleast an hour trying just to get the darn hoses off! If I had a camera I would have had someone take a picture cause I bet it tooked funny. Also at one time both my hands were completely in the engine bay, I bet that looked even funnier. "Teenager sitting on engine gets hands stuck in engine bay while trying to change fuel filter" ... thats what the headlines would say! hehe

It "should" be changed every 30,000 I believe they say. I could be wrong though. As to what kind, I just got the oem one from a nissan dealership. If you want, you can stick a 300z fuel filter in there, heard it lasts longer??? Never tried so I can't confirm that :P

I used some pliers to twist the hose on the fitting to break it loose and then carefully twisted back and forth while pulling up (or down). piece of cake.

I stuck a wire stripper between the end of the hose and fuel filter, and pushed it off using the fuel filter as a fulcrum.

The wire stripper I used has the various slots for different gauges of wire. You can pick one up at any hardware store.

Yeah, get a fuel filter for a 96 300Z. Then you only have to do this job half as often and it only cost a buck more for the filter.

aren't you guys even a bit worried to be using a metal object to pry off a fuel filter? What if you slip with the screwdriver and cause a spark when prying the filter off? Maybe it's just me.

Not just that, how about damaging the hoses and making it take longer unnecessarily. Just unscrew the clamps and yank that damn thing off. If you're a pansy, needle nose pliers will work too due to the limited space. Damn guys, I can understand a knock sensor, but this...???

Oh yea, you might wanna remove your intake assembly

You people are making it harder that it really is. You dont have to remove the fuel pump fuse, you dont need to take the airbox off, or anything like that. A panel popper looks similar to one of those tools you use out in your yard to get weeds out of the ground by the roots. Its basically a flat end, with a gap in the middle to slide it around things. You also dont have to worry about sparks, because that wont happen.

The thing is, how do you get the hose back on? Is it really small or is it bigger than the fuel filter tube and held on by the screws?

Come on guys, its not that difficult. If this is difficult i hate to hear about how long it takes you to install an intake.
Just pull real hard on the hose, after you loosen the hose clamps. It will come off. No need for any speacial tools.

You dont need, but it helps a lot. Clears all the area to access the fuel filter. Takes only 10 minutes more. While you are at it, clean the TB !

Once the hose comes off, it should slide right back on to the new filter.

YES, but it is difficult to get the best angle without removing other things. assuming you have the clamps removed, the hoses should just twist off without cutting them.
