Antenna adaptor?

Hi all,

I'm trying to replace the original radio/casette in my 95 Maxima with a radio/CD from a 2000 Sentra. The two square connectors on both units match perfectly. But the antenna connectors do not.

The antenna socket of the Maxima unit has 2 (two) holes in it, and a snap-on latch on the side. The socket of the Sentra unit has only 1 hole and no snap-on latch, therefore can not receive the antenna cable.

Am I out of luck? Is there a solution?

Thanks all,
Sam

they do make antenna adapters. whether or not they make the one you need, i don't know. try crutchfield.com or similar sites, or if you want to stay local car stereo plus is who i deal with in houston. if all else fails, splice em.

Which adaptor do I need?

What's the name/number of your local car stereo shop?

Sam

PS: I think I'll pass on the splicing ;-)

if the sentra has a standard antenna plug, you can get an adapter from Wal-mart for like $10. The maxima had a double antenna. You'll only get use of one of them, but it should work.

Thanks erty67.

I don't really understand the above statement. It sounds like I will NOT be using the full capacity of the Maxima antenna. If so, my reception will be WEAKER, correct?

yea, that was basically my point. I have a aftermarket HU and I only get to use one antenna. It's not bad.

Is the sentra headunit powered? Because you got SE and I think that one comes with BOSE. You might run into so problems if you the sentra headunit is powered

this is correct, if you have bose and the sentra unit has its own output. they do make an oem intereface, but i haven't heard anything good about them. if you have bose, you'll want to replace the speakers and there are some wiring issues. e-mail me if you have questions. admin @ 20somethingwheels.com (- spaces)

could you not use the connector and just wire the wires up to each other? or are they different?

Splicing antenna wire is a superb idea. Antenna's are intended to increase reception.

Thanks.

I just bought one yesterday from Walmart, $8.00. I installed and it's worked BUT:

It only uses the rear windshield antenna. The powered mast antenna is disabled, it does not even come up anymore. Is there way to make it work the other way around?

thats not so much because of the antenna adapter but because of the head unit. i'm guessing the sentra did not have a power antenna? i ran into this problem too, but didnt worry about it since i'm shaving everything anyway. something about a remote power lead to the antena motor.

Why did you opt for a 2000 Sentra radio? Isnt the shape of that radio some what round? I really am more curious about the first question though...

sounds like the power antenna isn't getting voltage on the remote lead. my only guess would be to get a male to male antenna adapter to hook up the rear window antenna....or cut the wire that goes to the power antenna and hook it up to the ignition wire. Then the antenna will be up whenever the car is on.
