Well, i got pulled over tonight, and i didn't have insurance... (semi long)
well, let me give some backround info for those of you who don't know how i got my car. well, i bought my car off of my best friend not too long ago. since i have not had a job in the last 4 months, he agreed to let me keep the car under his name untill i can re register the car under my name and pay the sales taxes on it. so a few day later, he told me that he canceld the insureance on the car, and i had to get my own just incase something happens. so i start my new job soon, and i was just going to wait. well, thats the backround story.
now, i was driving on one of those roads where the put a really low speed limit, and it is very hard to obey it because it feels like you are crawling. so i was going 40mph...( the only reason i was going so fast is because my clutch was not grabbing, and it was just burring, so i was getting upset, and started to hit the gas some more.) once i saw how fast i going, i immeditely hit the brakes, but it was too late. the cop asked why i was going so fast, and i started to tell him, but he said.. "i don't care. insurance card please." so as i am scrambling, i found an insurance card, and gave it to him.. even though it is not in affect anymore. he gave me a ticket for doing 35 in an 25, but wrote 45 and circled it in the top left hand corner of the ticket.
so now my question is this... what is going to happen? will it go on my friends record even though there was no insurance? will they check and see if my insurance is good at a later point in time? should i make an aperance in court and try to tell them i am sorry, and i had a problem with the car? (maybe tell them that i feel really bad, and i don't want my friends insurance to go up because of this)
please give any comments/thoughts you may have OTHER then that i am stupid for driving w/o insurance and things along those lines... thanks.

I think since the ticket is in your name, then it is just going to go on your record, and not affect your friends insurance at all. It is just a speeding ticket right? I have gotten a couple speeding tickets in my girlfriends car before, and that never affected her. I also did not have insurance at the time. Of course my insurance company sees these and my rates are higher because of it... anyway, your friend should be just fine, just pay the damn ticket, and go get some insurance! ...hope i could be of some help!

From the situations I've been in, you should be fine. Back when I was in high school, I used to pay the first month of my insurance and cancel just so I could get the slip. It would say I had insurance for the next 6 months even though I would have canceled after the first. Got a few tickets in Michigan and in Georgia and never got in trouble for not "really" having insurance. Not sure if that would still ride in Georgia though cause they supposed to be able to check your insurance info from their car but whatever. Ever since I got my Max, i've been getting real insurance. Also, my insurance has never been in my name either.

he didn't give me a ticket for not having insurance.... and that wouldn't work. you need to have proof that you had insurance PRIOR to the day you got pulled over. they know the tricks people pull.

if you didnt get a ticket for not having insurance, then take it as a gift and pay the speeding ticket. Just pay the ticket, and get insurance ASAP. And as far as showing the judge proof of insurance....it does work, depending on the judge, and your past history and your excuse. Like i said, i saw it happen like 4 times the other week.
Call the prosecutor's office and see if there's anything you can do as far as deferment programs or driving school so you don't get points...that'll save you a lot more than the price of a ticket once you get insurance!

Well I been stopped about four times, and I have always had insurance on the car. They always want to see if you have insurance, well here they check the license and insurance card from their car to see if everything matches and is valid insurance. I dont know about other states. You said you got a ticket for speeding, just be thankful, pay the ticket and get all your paper work fixed. If not mabey next time you will get the max impounded.
if the dude didn't write you up for not having insurance then you're fine, you have no worries.
Just pay the speeding ticket and take it as a warning to get insurance. Next time you might not be so lucky.... some popo's are good like that. Once I got caught speeding and just got a warning .....another time got caught speeding and wasn't wearing seatbelts. Just got a ticket for speeding and one passenger without a seatbelt.
Well, the third time, I got pulled over, the state trooper was abusive, spit in my face, wrote me up for everything, from speeding, to illegal tint. Suffice to say, I don't speed as much anymore - really takes so much longer to save for a mod if you're paying tickets. :-)

Youll be fine. The cops cant tell in the cars whether you really have insurance or not. They just look to see if you have proof and that its. So like some1 said earlier you could just pay the 1st month and cancel if you like and just carry around the card which isnt really good. BUt heh they dont know that.
Chris, you should be fine as long as you pay the ticket. If there was an issue with the insurance, you would have know it when the cop called for a tow.
My suggestion....pay the ticket. then go hire a chauffeur and never drive again. It will cost you a pretty penny, but with your luck it should save you money!

i do not think a 10 m.p.h tickit will pu points onto your licence. Haha when i was 16 only 2 years ago, i got a speeding ticket going 33 over my second day driving in my dad's 5th gen. Then 2 weeks later got one for going 17 over in my 4th gen.
Instead of trying to pay the ticket, try getting deffered adjustication(probation) or try to take driving school. It won't go on you or your friend's record. In Tx, if you have your insurance prior to having the ticket and don't have proof at the time just show the judge, he'll take it off. Good luck with the ticket.
you should be o.k.... you didnt get a insurance ticket, only speeding...
the number 45 means he clocked you at that speed.. but was gonna give you a break because of your excuse. and lowered it to 35...
just in case you try and fight it the judge will know exactly how fast you were really going.....

Well, thanks guys, i feel alittle better now. i am just relived that my friend will not have to pay higher rates because of my stupidity. but now i am bummed.
i finally am rid of my major accident off my record, and now this happens... so are you guys sure my rates will not go up? and some of you were saying i can take a course? how do i get a hold of a number to call? thanks

If you cant get it deffered and your insurance company doesnt drop the ball , your rates will go up. Also expect to pay a fine for having a lapse in coverage. Mine slipped 1 day when i changed providers, and it was like $50.
Also on another note. I know you said you didnt want comments about it, but here it is anyways. How about from now on, if you cant afford insurance, you stay off the road? They have public transportation for a reason. It'll be alot cheaper for a bus pass then it will if you hit someone without insurance.

First, you are a lucky dude for not getting in an accident...you d be in some BIG troubles...However,I d say that you should fight the ticket. And I ll tell you why : 1)the officer doesn t care that your insurance would go up or not...2)He ll get paid overtime to go to the court ,and if you are lucky enough (so far you were quite lucky) he MAY NOT show up (no prossecution, no case against you ) 3) you have a chance to have the ticket reduced from SPEEDING in zone to a non-moving violation 4) don t even say a word about the insurance... In the worst scenario, you won t have the ticket reduced and you are screwed insurance wise but at least you tried... Personally ,I think that people like you shouldn t drive , just take the bus until they decide to grow up and be responsibile. However , good luck with your decision...
I was talking to some people, and they told me that there is nothing i can do but taking the points of my license. are you guys sure about the driving school/pay double of the ticket? are these rules the same for all states? thanks..
