Not sure if any one has dynoed a car with bad KS. If you are driving with a bad KS, change it and you will be impressed. Instant power and lots of it... I guess a bad KS robs you about 10 to 20% power and causes a lag in throttle response.

Thats true I've been noticing power loss and lag and I just checked the ecu and found that nasty 0304 code.

I reset it and took a 6 minute ride up/down hills. Now i get 0505 no problem. I will keep checking it.
if it happens again I'm changing it.

Oh it will happen again, trust me. Happened to me too. I replaced the KS and that ended up not to be the problem. It was ignition coils despite me getting a 0304 code. So it could be your coils too, how many miles on the engine?

95,540k miles. I thought the coil problems were only on the 97 and up max. I got a 95.

Just changed two of the coils in my 95. You can test them for proper resistance, it should be 0.8 ohms. If greater, then you'll need to replace them. Also check for cracks around the boot. They cost around $80 each or more at the dealer. I paid $65 at Autozone. An org member paid $59 at the dealer.

A bad knock sensor gives your engine's maximum hp output at a mere 160 hp at peak rpms with slow low-end acceleration. so you get a noticeable power loss.

at courtesy nissan ignition coils cost me $56 and $58 each (front and back).
A new knock sensor is about $120.

courtesy nissan is a good place, 1-800-527-1909 talk to Bryan and mention Maxima.org for a discount.

540 thousand miles? Wow, you must take great care of that thing. I've never heard of a max with so many miles that kept on running... These engines must be durable.

Hehe... I hope he meant 95,540 miles not a 95 max with over HALF A MILLION miles.

yeah, that makes more sense. Maybe he didn't know what k stood for. 1k= a thousand. 100k= a hundred thousand. 95,540k= ninety five million, five hundred forty thousand.
