Auto to Manual Tranny Labor $$$

I just talked to a friend of mine who's a mechanic, and i figured i'd ask him if he knew how to do a auto to tranny swap... he told me that he'd do it for like $650 w/o parts... how does that sound? also, does anyone know how much it would cost to get the parts from a junkyard? thanks for any info...

OK, if you do purchase from a junkyard you are going to want to rebuild what you buy. unless you want to take ur chances with the junkyard's box. Also your going to want to purchase a brand new clutch kit from an aftermarket parts place. I heard act clutches were good for the maxima but ive only used centerforce. $650 doesnt sound like he is a close friend and thats what any mechanic would charge for this job. If i am wrong please let me know guys thats just an assupmtion i came up with after looking at my transmission rebuild bill.

PS you may want to call it a 5spd conversion or a auto to manual conversion. A auto to trans conversion doesnt really explain what you want to do ......because both auto and manual boxes are both trannys...(transmissions)
