ECU upgrade for a 97/98

I have 1997 and am trying to find a 1995/1996 ECU at a junkyard. Which one am I looking for? Before 10/95 or after 11/95? Does it even matter? I remember reading something about the ECU having the number A 18, or A 17 on it?

Please help, I want to get the correct one...

Thanks

I've usually gone with "from 11/95" chips but recently found it doesn't really matter. The 5sp vs auto can matter as well as the model GXE, GLE, SE.

The A18 appears on all Maxima ECU's. JWT's site has a great list of cores & codes.
