Ok I did a search and tried all that I found except for the nail poslish removal (do not trust it). I tried painting cleaner, heat gun and rubbing alcohol. The only one that worked was the rubbing alcohol, but after completing on side, I had to stop using it because I notice that the alcohol was leaving scratches, and yes I did wax after removing the stripe. Is there anyway to remove the other side easier? I do not want to use the alcohol on the other side or should I just take it to a body shop to have it removed?

Hmmm...

A plain ol' hairdryer worked for me pretty well. I just started an end of it, and then held the hairdryer on the area about 1" back from where I was peeling. I held that for like 20 seconds, then pulled a little. It did leave some goo on there, but most of the stripe came up.

Use a clay bar and some Meguiar's Quik Detailer to get the rest of the goo off and then wax really good. I'm not sure why yours is stuck on there so well.

You know at one point I was beginning to think that it might be paint. But then I never hear of rubbing alcohol removing paint. Hey Jambo I used a heat gun with 2 different settings did not help much, but what if it is paint then what?

could be paint?

I have a question for you--do you know if your pinstripes are painted on? I know on my 97 GLE, it is PAINTED on from the factory. I have seen a lot of Beige (pebble sand metallic) Maximas that have the thin burgundy pin stripes on them (same as my car--GLE, and GXE--never on SE's)--and these lines are painted on...
if these are painted on and you are messing with nail polish remove--watch out--it can potentially mess up your paint in the other parts of your car. Now my question is when you took it off like Jambo instructed, did the entire piece peel away like a sticker? if it did, then it is stuck on...
but...

My GXE had to 2 gold stripes on each side..

All I did was use my nail and nicked it... then pulled it very slowly...

It came out pretty easy

I live in Memphis, now, but my pinstripe was baked on by the hot Texas sun. The pinstripes on my Maxima are hard, brittle, and stuck on like crazy. I can just barely get 1/8" of it off at a time. If I keep at it, I may have all of it off by Christmas... If I still have any fingers left.

I've had pretty good luck with 3M "General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner", part no. 051135-08984. You can only get it at automotive paint supply stores. There may be better products there for removing the pinstripes. Ask the guys behind the counter, they'll know.

Just scraped that sucker off with a plastic scraper.

Nice and slow. The car was wet after rain, so that was some lubrication. I know it's kind of medieval, but it worked. I have a dark green 96, so maybe I wouldn't do it with other colors. The pinstripe is a rubbery tape on top of the clearcoat.

if its paint you can use automotive paint laquer*(spelling sucks here)remover. be careful not to use to much... also the paints color matters here(pin strip color) red comes off easy, tan is a pain in the ***. you can also try buffing it out....

I think it depends on the pinstripes.

I could start taking mine off with a finger nails. So it wasnt a big stretch. I cleaned up the remaining goo with some wet cloth and some soap. Again, if yours is painted on, it won't work
Mine was a tape above the clearcoat.

Are pinstripes officially "Out"

Not cool anymore. Car looks much sharper without them. You know what I thought looked fugly.. An LS400 silver metallic with light blue pinstripes. That's what got me thinking about removing mine.

Maybe the dealer paint the strip on after the ->

factory clear coat. You know like those air brushed mural on cars. If that's the case, as long you don't damange the factory clear coat. You should be ok. Minor scratches and be buff out.
