the max sometimes seems to accelerate oddly. say im coming around a corner and step on it... sometimes, the rpms will jump from ~3k to ~7k really fast. (im trying to remember approximately, here. hopefully you get the idea.) it doesnt sound good, and theres this big jerk of acceleration.

i dont know if this is normal or not... the only other car ive driven is my dads a6 and its silky smooth. could it be the automatic tranny being retarded? is it my poor driving skill ?

Probably knock sensor or fuel injectors. I had the same problem and got a new KS, helped a bit but still is jerky. Check your fuel injectors. Read all the STICKY threads up top.
