Help? Car keeps cutting out with cold starts...with brand new motor!
Hi All,
Just recently, Nissan replaced my motor under my extended warrenty. Things like the old intake manifold, whole old intake box assembly, old tb, etc were put onto the new block. Anyhow, with the cold weather lately, my car has had trouble starting. It would start, the RPM's would jump to 1500, then quickly die down to 200-300 rpms and stall out. This only happens when the car has been parked for more than 5 hours or so. Other times it starts perfectly. I am thinking this may be because of a dirty tb, or plugs? But once the car is warmed up it is running fine and I get no CEL. Does anyone know what would cause this?
Thanks

I might be totally off here but since the problem sounds like idle related, I'd start with cleaning the IACV (idle air control valve). That's a place where a lot of carbon deposits can build up. For procedures, go to this thread, read post #2.
Another thing I can think of is to try and clean the TB. For procedures, go to this link.
Both are very simple to do, I'd say it'll take an hour to do both. Maybe 1.5 hours if you haven't done it before. Also, see if you can pull some codes from the ECU. It might give you some clues to partially solving your issue.

I'm having the exact same problem, only I don't have a new motor... and it doesn't necessarily have to be cold weather for mine to do it, either (although it always does it in the cold, and not as much if it's warmer out)
Ok thanks guys for the help. I too think it is TB related. I have an appointment tommorow morning also with Nissan for them to take a look at the car too, since it is still under the extended warrenty.
