Its come time for me to buy new rotors front/rear. I havent decided which ones to buy. I hear that the cross-drilled crack and that slotted eat away at the brake pads alot faster than normal.
Anyone with theses rotors on their max please give me some advice on which ones to buy. I do alittle spirited driving on occasion but nothing real serious, usually racing on the highway or street. Other than that just normal everyday cruisin around town and to school.

Also where is a good place to buy Brembo rotors?

Thanks in adavance!!

I have Cross Drill fort and rear for about a year and never had a problem with them. I like them! Never experienced brake fade. Brake Pads are Axxis. Don’t do much racing, but when I do you can tell the difference from when I had the stock rotors and pads.

any suggestions on which brand of x-drilled/slotted rotots to get? maybe some suggestions on the brake pads to go with also appreciated.

i heard that the axxis metal masters brake pads are good.

It doesn't sound like you do much hard driving... If you're not looking for the "looks" aspect of it... You could save some money with just getting nonslotted/nondrilled rotors. I would just invest in some good quality brake pads... that is where the improvement in braking performance will show itself... the factory pads are horrible.

Like SMX, I've never had any problems with the 3 sets of crossdrilled rotors I've had installed in my past vehicles. But then again I was careful to not warp/crack them.

I'm going through the same thing as you. I'm going to go for the cross drilled rotors, SS Brake Lines, and Stillen Pads all at the same time. The best price I've seen is with Avalon Racing. The front rotors were $130 or so, rear $120, pads $84, lines $80. I think those were the prices check him out just to make sure though.

Chunger is right. If you want a good brake upgrade, just do pads. The maximas have a great breaking system already. But, after market rotors do look pretty cool. It really depends on what you are wanting. MY2CENTS

I'm with you on that one. I would like to see some test results between stock and cross drilled rotors with axxis pads before I'd go for cross drilled rotors. If the performance gain is minimal, then I would stick with the stock ones.

This reminds me of a previous thread about hyperwhite bulbs. A test was performed on various brands of bulbs (including PIAA). In the end all the aftermarket bulbs actually performed worse than the stock one. Go figure.

What cross-drilled rotors did you guys buy? I just bought a set of PowerStops and I am concerned about Axxis Metal Master pads wearing the gold cadmium finish off and gouging the rotors. Does anyone have experience with this set-up? How about PowerStops and Porterfield R4S?

The part of the brake pad that does touch the rotor WILL wear away the CAD plating and the rotor underneath it... Did you expect there to be absolutely no wear at all on the rotor?

Chunger,
I don't have the equipment to measure how thick or how hard the plating is. Also, I have never used Axxis Metal Masters, so I have no idea how abrasive they are, that's why I was asking.
I have seen industrial chrome on parts last for literally millions of cycles.

If you have first-hand experience, please share it with us.

Well i just installed new pads on the car about 7k ago, so i know that they are fine. I just get that nasty sound and steerting wheel jitter when i hit the brakes. Im 98% sure its the front rotor's warped to $hit.
Iam gonna try out the Brembo cross-drilled up front and new brembo regular surface rotors in the rear. Ill just have to be a bit more cautious as to how hard i use them.

Now heres another question: where to buy them for a deal?

Thanks so far guys for all the advice!!

The Stillen rotors use Brembo blanks and then they just drill the rotor from there. Go to Avalon he's got the best deal I've seen so far.

The "Plating" is very thin... All it really does is prevent rust on the areas not in contact with the pad. All brake pads will wear away at the rotor surface so the thin plating will wear off in a few miles of braking... The remaining coated portions will be protected from rust. Haven't you noticed that after it rains overnight there is some rust on the rotor surface? (provided you have open face rims) Mine still does it on the "wear surfaces".

i got brembo blanks from KRP (kami racing products) They do both cross/slotted rotors for like 210.00. Thats how much i got my rotors for. They work well. It looks nice and raced out!lol you will feel a little turbulance a little with cross drilled rotors. Thats normal. I have a buddy who has the stillen cross. We did a test and I stopped about 10 feet more than he did. from zero to 60. I'm here in Santa Ana, CA.. If you havent bought them yet, they try both cross/drilled rotors.
