Changed axle and seal, did i do it right?

I just finished changing my driver side axle and seal. At the time of installation I wasn't too sure if the axle went all the way into the transmission. I know I had the splines lined up correctly, just not sure if it went in all the way cause I never felt a click or anything. However, I didn't have any problems getting the hub back on so i figured it was all the way in. but now that I think about it, the inner CV joint has the ablility to extend and contract. Also, I had lots of trouble getitng the new seal in (wouldn't go in evenly, one side in further). Which way does the seal go in? One side has a rubber lip protruding out + rounded edge and the other has a circular metal spring + a sharper edge) I just put it in the way the old one was put in(lip facing out). But now I'm beginning to think that the previous seal installation may have been incorrect. Well, no leaks so far. It's been about 2 days. What do you all think?
