HVLP Painting Systems

Has anyone had an painting experience with the HVLP painting systems? I'm talking about the ones that use a turbine to provide the air source instead of using a compressor. Reason I ask is because I've read a lot of good reviews about these and I am looking into purchasing one. I have a few spots and panels that might need repainting and this seems to be the best solution besides buying a compressor/gun.

I've used HVLP guns but off compressed air. I thought that it was just that you didn't have to have a big compressor. Never heard of the turbine set-up. Are you planning to paint in your garage? If so be prepared to do some wet-sanding & buffing b/c im sure you'll get trash in the paint...

P.S. - They have a good HVLP gun kit at sam's for about 75$ not sure if they have any at your sam's or no though.

I have a FinishLine 3 HVLP paint gun. I found it on ebay for like 110 new.

Im not sure what type of turbine system your referring too. Youll need a Gun (HVLP) and a SOURCE of air. U can use a small 2 1/2 Pancake Compressor for doin side panel's but nothing too big. The Resivor of the Air_tank itself Needs to be Bigger.

I for instance use a 2 1/2 HP Pancake which is feed to a 60 Gallon Tank (the tank is from the 60's) It then pumps the large tank up to 90psi, Adjust Air-Intake to the gun to use 30-35 psi and Paint away.

Check ebay for good gun prices ,. later mwest

They systems I'm talking about are something like this:

"Comes with a built-in self contained electric turbine compressor which creates and amplifies the air flow. High volume low pressure spray guns get better transfer efficency and less over spray - resulting in a 40% material savings. Ideal for jobs where spray control is especially critical adjustable spray patterns: vertical, horizontal, and circular. Sprays light, medium and heavy stain, varnish, and latex.
89% transfer efficiency
15 ft. PVC hose
1 qt. cup capacity
Compressor: 110VAC, 60 Hz, 9.85 amps
Air inlet size: 1.137''
Nozzle size; 0.70'' "

"Manufactured in the UK, the powerful two stage motor provides the (HVLP) spray gun with a consistant airflow. This technique allows the sprayed paint to be distributed evenly dispite varying viscosities. Ideal for spraying most paints with an expert finish and no brush marks, this product can be used in the home, garden, workshops and model and craft making."

I wouldnt dare waste money on that.
What u want is something with about 9.0SCFM for painting. You can get away with 5.0SCFM for a small job.
How much does that cost? It prob "recommended" for Airbrush Applications OR there are BS'ing you. No way something that pulls 9.8 amps is more than 2 or 3 HP.

HVLP- $110
Pancake Compressor- $100

Once U BUY urself a Regular HVLP gun you can use this with any compressor. 20 yrs from now you could still use it. I dont Believe U could Get Parts for that KIT if it ever broke.

BTW. that GUN & Turbine are Plastic. That would last a whole 1 drop on the ground. USE Metal Tools Only.
BTW. You DONT see a water Resivor either do you? no , you'll need one of these if your planing to use a 2 stage paint/clearcoat Type of paint

Also that gun is the old style gun. You want a gravity feed for sure. Wastes less paint and works better. I thought HVLP guns you could use down to 7psi, but I may be wrong.

I doubt it will work. Spend a little more money and get a good setup.
