gas to start, then low idle - 500 rpm??

on my 95 maxima, the check engine light recently came on. i pulled the codes and it gave me 05-05 (no problems). after i cleared the codes and went to start the car, it would start and die right away. the only way to keep it started is to give it gas at first. after the car is running, when standing still, it idles at around 500 rpm. when the engine i warmed up, or if it is warm outside, the car will start w/o giving it gas, but i still have the idle problem. the car still has full power when running.. seems to be a strange coincidence that this happened right after i cleared the codes!!! any ideas???

Clean your TB http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/517 and connect everything back tightly so there is no air leak.

sounds to me like a stuck IACV. (idle air control valve). You can clean that out too.

I agree. I made a thread about this yesterday. Cleaned layers of gunk out of my TB. Car just started up and idles on it's own now.

I had the same problem immediately after checking the ECU codes. It turned out that I didn't reset the ECU. When that happens, the car continues to run in some sort of diagnostic mode that just so happens to disable the IACV and results in a low idle.

Reset your ECU correctly and the problem should go away.

that is not that abnormally low for idling rpm anyway. Mine is normally about 600 at idle, and it runs and cranks fine all the time.
