I took off my muffler
just to see what it sounds like. It's ok, but it resonates REALLY REALLY loud from 2k - 3k rpms. I know a guy who took his off and replaced it with a pipe and a resonated tip. Would this help that much. I know that the longer pipe would have a lower resonant frequency so that might help. Plus having the opening out back where its supposed to be might not be as loud as it terminating under the back seat as it is right now.
Any ideas. Besides getting anew muffler. The whole point is to know if I can get away without one.

traffic
Part of the reason the exhaust is routed to the rear of the car is to have the gases to your rear. If you are in traffic, you're more likely to inhale those wonderful gases. I'd somehow route it rearward, especially if you are in traffic a lot.
If your poor like I was when I had my 3rd gen then just buy a piece of pipe from pep boys and clamps to mount it with, oh and of course a phat chrome tip. Really all you have to do is to come up with a way to hold it in place. I just bought some parts from Pep Boys and attached the piece of pipe to the same spots as the original muffler was attached. Cost me like 10 bucks
