DONT CHANGE THEM ALL! Just unplug each one-by-one with the engine running and see which one does not make the engine run worse, simple as that. Or you could wait untill you get a CEL...but dont blow 700$ when its only probably one coil pack thats going bad which can be fixed for 70$

I was getting a very intermittent misfire, enough to throw a code and CEL (0201), but not enough to allow the cylinder to be indicated.. First I replaced 2 of the 6 coils, and it was OK then for about 6 months (I got lucky). Recently it started happening again... I bit the bullet and replaced the other 4... Cost me about $65 each from CourtesyNissan, and replacement is a piece of cake...

I have a spare set of 6 coil packs I can sell you. How about $65 shipped for all of them?

I say that is a good way to go if you have $$$$ to pay for new coils, but WHAT IF misfiring is caused by a faulty injector or a bad spark plug.... hence, not the smartest way...

i just replaced mine on my 99.
99's have bad coils - FACT there is a TSB on it. i got mine for 56-58 from courtesy.

the bad ones are Hanshin. I got Mitsubishi's instead and there is a huge difference. acceleration is very smooth and linear, steering wheel stopped slightly shaking at idle and most importantly at stop signs and lights the engine stopped hiccuping.

or you can check in haynes manual on how to test each coilpack with voltmeter.

i had a misfire on cyl 4 a while back.

a well tuned engine responds better to mods.

Check CEL. It tells you which coil pack is misfiring. I would go and take the coilpacks from JAY25, it damn good deal. Just make sure that you put them in on the right bank of the engine, since they use different types for each side. Injectors usually don't go out, so it's like 100% a coil pack.

Oh yeah as far as I remember coil pack sometimes doesn't trip a CEL, because there was this guy with 2001 maxima at the dealership that had faulty coil pack without a CEL.

I got a 99, car started misfiring once in a while back in November, got worst in December so I started replacing coils, replaced one & it got a little better, then another one & it got a lot better but still misfires so I had to buy 2 front coils & 1 rear coils & now the misfiring is gone... 99 has crappy coils

Bad coil pack will trigger CEL only when misfiring is repetitive and persists. I replaced two coils and the CEL never came on.

Plus as sad as it is, injectors do sometimes fail in our Maximas, I replaced one and hope won't have to anymore...

my coil packs read 1.55, 1.67,1.67,1.67,1.67, and 1.88 ohms when i tested with a voltmeter... I'm thinking that the 1.55ohm or the 1.88 ohm coil packs are going bad.... any ideas?
