Painting Dash
Painting Dash
I'm in the middle of painting my dash. I'm follwing the directions off of vqpower.com and everything is coming out great, however, I have a GXE with manual climate contol. Does anyone know of a way to paint this? Is there a way to take the face off so that I can paint it? Anyone have any tricks? Please let me know, thanx.
That is actually my write up. I have manual controls myself. The only way to paint that, is to tape off what you dont want painted, and then spray it. I didn't want to run the risk, and left it black.

Just want to compliment you on your dash and the write-up. So there is no way of taking the face off?
yes you can take off the face to paint. I just changed the led's for my manual climate control. Just take it out of the car just as you would when you remove the stereo.
remove the back piece, there's two circuit boards over each other. to remove the top piece you would have to use pliers to squeeze the plastic pieces that is holding the top board to the bottom board and pull the board while squeezing the plastic pieces, there are two of them I believe. Once you got that out. You can remove the turn **** that controls the fan speed in the front. pull out the **** from the front or use a small screw driver to wedge it out. While you're doing that take off the buttons for the fan directions also. (face, face + ground, ground only, etc.)
After you remove the turn **** and the buttons go back and try to remove the turn **** mechanism from the back. There might be a screw on it but I'm not sure, remove if you see one. On the side of the whole unit there are wedges to secure the boards and the turn **** piece in place. use a small screwdriver to stick it in and "unlock" the piece and pull the turn **** thingy out. Do it for any other wedges that might be holding the turn **** thingy in place.
after you get the turn **** thingy out you can pull out the other board. Remove the two screws on each side and if you look on the side again, there will be wedges securing the circuit board also, repeat the same procedure and it should come out eventually. It's a lot easier if the front fan direction pieces are out already.
After taking the board out there's another board on the bottom for the temperature slider. Pull out the sliding bar in the front. There's another wedge to hold the circuit board so repeat like before. Take out the plastic/glass pieces. After that, all the electronic parts should be out and ready for paint.
If you have any questions shoot me a PM or IM. Hope it helped.
