I just pulled my ECU out last week and sent it off for a flash upgrade. The ECU is not fun to take out. First, disconnect the battery. Let it sit for around ten minutes before proceeding to disconnect the ECU. Disconnecting it disables the airbag system. From there, remove the bottom kick panels on the center console, exposing the ECU and harness plug on the passenger side. Remove the bolt holding the harness plug-in. Then remove the 4 phillips screws (2 facing front and 2 facing rear) holding the ECU in the bracket. Then, slowly and carefully slide the ECU out.

It is not that hard to remove the ECU but it is a PITA to put the new one in. There is no room at all to work with down there. I still don't have mine correctly mounted.

I never disconnected my battery when replacing mine.

I hate to disagree but i just removed mine last night, and the hardest part is getting the back screws. the re-install is easy IMO.
