Short Ram vs. CAI

I currently have a short ram intake that the guy that had the car before me put on there. Its pretty good, but i was wondering would it be worth it to sell that one and buy an Injen CAI for about $300??? maybe i could sell that one for $40??? or should i just stay with the short ram that i have now?

I really don't think its worth that much money to go up to a CAI, sure it may give alittle more gains but nothing that 160$ won't give you with a y-pipe.

I just got my injen CAI for 256 shipped. It does seem kind of excessive for pipes and filter.

i know auto parts stores sale thing light that you can bend and get to go where you want. if i did not have the jim wolfe filter and had a 3 inch stack i would buy oine and run it up in front of my radiator. that would be bad ***.

it's not worth it IMO. I've had 'em all: JWT,Stillen,WeaponR,GAB,Hybrid,Frankencar, and now the Injen is what I currently have. I kept tryin different ones looking for something I have not found: the best attribute of each combined into one. It's not really worth all the fuss, money, research, and worry if you ask me, but that's just my experience

i made my own ram air intake for 20$ and my freind has an injen and he says he felt more of an upper rpm pull than his (he was not very happy). i have a thread on one of the next couple pages explaining it and i will post pics when i can. it doesnt look as nice but it definitely doesnt look too bad (not worth spending 300 dollars for the miniaml gains if you ask me)

you can easily buy a cai off the f/s section of the forum for half that price. or you could buy one off ebay for like 60 bucks and custom make it yourself. cai gives you low end power, and short ram will give you high end.

Research? Fuss? Money? All I need is a 3" butterfly plate and I'm done. It's so easy it's not even funny. But I can't find a butterfly plate anywhere, let alone an affordable one.

Just sharing my experience here bud, not speaking to you directly. Sorry, if it came off that way. Are you talking about a double intake set up where you can switch from HAI/CAI?

I can't believe i'm participating in another thread about intakes

Dont all of the intakes, including the ones on Ebay perform the alike, the only difference being the aesthetics?

pretty much...they all sound the same. Unless you mind to feel a difference in high end or low end.

IMO, both CAI and short rams wont give you much gain...but many ppl have it for the sound. I dont think its worth spending 300 bucks for an intake...

cough....cough...keep the one you got...cough.

Trying to get .5WHP/WTQ is totally pointless, especially when there are other things to spend it on. I could see fu cking with this if you had a full blown 13 Sec N'A machine but not otherwise.

Also, You live in Michigan right? In the winter I takes much longer for the engine to warm up with a cold air setup. This could lead to shortening the life of the VQ. Keep what you got. If you really want the cold air an exhaust shop could easily bend the last section. Then you drill the hole and your set. You have $300 worth of stuff for only $20-30.

How do you figure it takes longer for the engine to warm up? Sounds like some BS you dug up from god knows where. If you didn't realize the stock snorkle is as long as the CAI. Also isn't the heat produced inside the combustion chambers and that's what heats the car up among other things?
