need help with aftermarket exhaust
Hello, I need some help with what I should get for my exhaust. My warpspeed y-pipe should be coming soon. Im going to keep the stock cat and get a b-pipe and muffler. Im probably going to go with warpspeed for the b-pipe. For the muffler I want something quiet or has a very low deep sound, nothing ricey, loud and has a 4" tip. I was thinking about getting a dynomax turbo muffler, would I need 2.25 or 2.5? What side is the stock muffler and does the stock muffler have an offset inlet? I cant check myself because the car is in the shop from the hit and run
. I was also was thinking about going with a 5th gen muffler but I dont want a dual tip. Anyone have any other sugestions? Thanks.

If I go with a Dynomax 2.5" muffler, which b-pipe from Warpspeed can I use? The stock muffler has an offset inlet and a center outlet like the Dynomax...right? All the 2.5" b-pipes are for center inlet mufflers. The b-pipes for the "stock" inlets are 2.25". Which one can i use?
I just receive all my exhaust parts from warpspeed yesterday and I am using a ws y-pipe, high flow cat, b-pipe w/ resonator, and 18 inch magnaflow muffler with 3.5 inch tip. Warpspeed recommended these pieces to me and stated that it will be a real nice deep tone with no ricey-ness to it. Will be installing sometime this week.
BTW...it is all 2.5 inch mandrel bent piping.

Keep us updated. I'm looking to get a b-pipe and wanted to know how your setup sounds. Thanks

For those of you who don't want a loud exhaust, you have a many choices. No matter what, the Y pipe increases sound, (can get raspy). The Apex and Frankencar cat backs are relitively quiet. If you wanna go custom 1) Mod the whole exhaust and keep the stock muffler. This will give a raspy yet quiet tone, not deep though. 2) Mod the exhaust keeping the cat and a resonatonated B pipe. You will have a deep tone due to a straight through muffler, but the resonator and cat will ease the noise (rasp) of the Y pipe. I have resonator for a muffler, yeah a glass pack, and an other wise stock exhaust. The resonator is not much louder then stock. It adds a deep rumble from start up to 3,000 rpm, then it dies out. To answer the lining up question, having a new tail section (to mate to the B pipe) made from scratch is kinda pointless, just cut off the stock muffler inlet and reuse it. The B pipe ends with a flange so if you use the flanged inlet pipe of the stock muffler, it will take little work, if any, to get a muffler to fit correctly. Thats what I did. If you have a 33" long muffler (inlet to tip) it should not need any extra pipe and it comes right to the edge of the bumper (on a 97-99).

I was thinking that I probably need the inlet to the stock muffler to make this work. The stock inlet is 2.25"? If so, there is not reason to go with a 2.5" b-pipe and muffler.

correction...stock piping is 2.0", not 2.25". That is why some people on here get 2.25 piping put on aftermarket.
JeEve, I would just get some muffler shop to custom bend you some piping for b-pipe and beyond. I did this and it only cost me like $50. I got 2.5" piping all the way from the stock resonator back to my 5th gen muffler. It sounds good. I am sure it will be a little louder when I get my y-pipe on, but I will not mind. I think it will still be quiet enough for my taste and sounds like for you too. Look into it. Call around and see what people would charge you to do it.

Thanks for the replies. I thought the stock was 2.25". Brudaddy, did the muffler shop mandrel bend the piping? I was just going to get a warpspeed 2.5" b-pipe and dynomax 2.5" muffler and get a shop to weld 2.5" piping from the b-pipe to the muffler. I dont want to use the stock muffler inlet piping sinces its 2" and there will be no point of doing this. I cant trust any shops around here, every place tries to screw you. My friend called a shop and they wanted $100 to install his catback. It bolts right on and does not need welding. He got it done for around $60 elsewhere. Im probably going to get charged a lot more since i need custom piping. Is going with 2.5" going to make any difference than 2.25"?
