o2 sensor trouble...PLEASE HELP

i looked in the faq's and the check engine light section, found no help. i got a 0136 code, saying it was my o2 sensor, so i replaced it today, and reset my cel. the cel is off, but it still is throwin a code...is that going to go away, or is something still messed up? I'd appreciate a little help please, not just views if you have any knowledge on the topic. thanks

if your CEL is still on then you still have a problem, check the CEL code again and verify if it's still the same one or another.

Echo,

I am asking this because I am having a simliar problem. Which sensor is the Bank 2 sensor? On my 99 MAX there are 3 sensors. Looking at the engine from under the hood, there's one sensor to the left that's easy to reach, and one to the right underneath the car, and then the last one towards the rear, after the cat.

My dilemma is I get the rights and lefts mixed up. The dealer said bank 1 sensor 1 is the sensor to the right LOOKING OUT FROM THE WINDSHIELD, I changed it and still get the code. So now I am thinking I changed the wrong one. I swear to god, as soon as I get this all figured out, I'm writing up a detailed HOW-TOm because nobody seems to know where BANK 1 and BANK 2 is, and if you should judge left and right by facing the engine compartment, or sitting in the passengers seat.

thats a good question...i changed the one to the "right" underneath the car. My CEL doesnt come on, but i still get that code, even after resetting the CEL, and erasing the code...:-/

It is a stored code. You need to clear it with an electronic device (Higher end Code Scanner or Dealer Equipment. Resetting the ECU won't necessarily clear anything but the light (current code).

autozone has the scanner that can erase it, and we erased it yesterday, and it was back today, but without the cel being on. so we erased it again today, so ill go find out tomorrow if its still there

eckohb ,

I got the 0135 code (Bank 1 sensor 1) I changed the easy one, to the left, under the hood of the car, with the short 18"wire. But I think I should have changed the one you changed, because I still keep getting the code. So in essence, I changed the 0136 sensor and didn't even have to. But I am going to just leave it in and buy another sensor.

Perhaps, if you still have it, replace the sensor to the left with the old sensor you took out and see what happens?
Or, just buy another new one.
