Cutting a coil on eibach

if i cut a coil on a set of eibach springs cause i want a bit more of a drop, will it affect the way the eibach make the car handle or would it just drop it more with the same handling characteristics. im thinkin like when people cut the "dead coil" on the rear sprints in order to make it sit even.

everyone is gonna tell yuo dont do it..

i have my maxspeed springs cut 1 coil all around. ride got a little bit stiffer, nothing i cant live with. handling is still fine. much better than stock. i only drove with the maxspeed at full height for a week..so i dont know which handling setup is better.

eibach is a much stiffer spring than maxspeed though. so you may get worse results than me.

if you dont mind the stiffness, it shouldnt be too bad. the major concern with cutting springs is bottoming out often. eibachs dont lower much to begin with.

fronts dont have a dead coil to cut... that is where there is a problem. it wont sit perfectly on the spring seat after the cut. if you happen to drive off ramp and your car looses touch with the ground. the spring may unseat itself. causing alot of problems for you.

up to you.. but if you have eibachs(pretty pricey).. im sure u can sell them on FS forum, buy sprint(pretty cheap) springs have still have 20-50 bucks left over to buy new strut bearings. IMO.

if you cut the springs you make them sit little messed up, I would think it would be unsafe, and I think by doing this you basicly ruin your springs.

Eibach's are progressive rate springs and cutting them will change the way they work

exactly....don't cut eibach springs...that will mess up the progressivity of the springs which is the entire point of them in the first place....it would be less terrible if it were a "linear rate" spring

I thought it was too? progress is a progressive spring. Im pretty sure you can tell by looking at them. Progressive ones go from a bigger to a smaller, tighter spiral. linear ones dont. Correct us if were wrong, I know theres suspension pros out there......

All lowering springs to my knowledge are progressive. Coilovers are linear.

Almost two years and no problems so far. I belive that the CV joints only wear out on auto's.
