Knock Sensor Problem

Well my CEL came on today and I just checked it...0304...knock sensor. I have noticed that the car wasn't in great tune since I got it, but I never had a CEL and I checked the codes a month ago and nothing. Now all of a sudden the light comes on and i have the code. RIght after I reset the CEL I started by car and it almost stalled. When I rev it up in neutral the needle drops back down and the car almost stalls again and vibrates a little too. Is this in line with a bad KS? All of a sudden the car barely runs?!?

Also, I hear a belt chirping sound when I start the car and sometimes while accelerating or shifting. I just had the belts replaced so it can't be that! By the way, I just got my car back from the tranny shop and had all the beatrings replaced. Any ideas?

Oh, and I had a new exedy clutch (OEM, not perfromance) installed when the tranny was being done. The pedal is SO FRIGGEN LIGHT, and there is so much movement from the floor before it catches. Is this normal for a new clutch or can it be adjusted or is there something wrong? Would the clutch make a chirping noise if something were wrong?

Sorry for the long post, please help!

Thanks

Well if your CEL came on that means there is another code besides the KS. A KS will not set off the CEL by itself. Checkthe codes again when it pops up.

yeah a ks doesnt trip the CEL. and i HIGHLY recommend you change that knock sensor. i just changed my 3 days ago and i feel a huge diff in power and speed.
about the car stalling and not revving right....that happened to me too right after i changed my ks and checked for codes. you didnt reset the ecu correctly. go back down there and reset it again.
1. Turn the selector screw clockwise to its stop.
2. Wait 2 seconds.
3. Return back by turning the screw counterclockwise to its stop.
4. IMMEDIATELY REPEAT steps 1 to 3.

You know what, I think I forgot to repeat 1-3, thats probably why the car is running like crap. I'll try again tomorrow.

ANyone have ideas on the chirping noise or clutch issues?

Thanks

Ok, I reset the computer again, I think I forgot to put it all the way against the stop before. Thanks for your help.

BUT. I after I reset the ecu, the 0304 went away but when driving the CEL came on again and it was blinking randomly. I checked the ecu again and got 0505...no codes found. So I reset it again and the light is off. But why was the CEL blinking like that?

And I'm baffled because 0304 was the only code I had, and that shouldn't trip the light. I stared at the light for a few minutes and only got 0304.

Thanks

You may have an ignition coil going bad or some sort of a misfire. My SES came on and flashed randomly when my #6 coil was crapping out. I think a fault needs to occur twice or more for a trouble code to be stored, so whatevers wrong just might not have happened enough yet to store a code.

My bad knock sensor didn't throw any code at all... but I had recently done a tune-up, and the engine still had a stumble, and was suffering from a sudden reduction in fuel mileage.

I replaced the knock sensor ($90 plus $1 shipping from ebay) and the car ran like brand new!

I guess if a knock sensor has a problem that makes it 'extra sensitive' it won't throw a code. It just kicks in and pulls the timing like it would on cheap gas. It's not officially doing anything wrong.

Good Luck!
