most gallons on a fill up?

Hey a recent thread sparked my interest. i read on edmunds.com that we have an 18.5 gallon gas tank. i have driven for quite a ways with the fuel light on and still only put 17.5 gallons in the car. what is the most u have put into your car? also one quick question does running your car really low like this hard on the fuel pump? thanks

most i've ever been able to put in mine is 17.2 or 3... fuel light was on..... as far as the fuel pump issue, I have heard that it is bad for the fuel pump to run it really low, but then again the sources I read it from may not be correct.

18.1 gal....and it was running on fumes .... running low on fuel can be bad for the pump ....the pump uses fuel for its coolant ...so if you run the tank dry or the pump can't pick up the fuel ....it can burn the pump out

17.7gal, after crawling thru p.m. rush hour traffic in NYC; had to wait 'til i was on the NJ pike to gas up, sweatin' like Marion Barry.

i believe the low fuel light comes on when you're down to 3 gallons. don't f*ck around with low gas...you ain't Kramer and this ain't Seinfeld.

Good topic. I need to know this for both corner balancing and blending race gas.

I've never been able to add over 17.0g myself. Oh, and I only got 34mi (about 1.5gal) after the orange light came on til I ran it dry. I'd still like to know where that other 1.0-1.5gal hides. Maybe in the fuel lines or filler tube itself?

17.5 gal once. May have been able to go a little further but didn't feel like having to push the max to a gas station. My fuel light had been on for about ~35 miles and when I started to go up a slight hill, the engine spurted and I hit an immediate u-turn for the gas station i had just passed.

i hear that running the car to low could clog up the fuel filters and such wit some of the dirt in the bottom of the gas tank. but i could be wrong though
