gear oil leak at cv shaft?

what is the name of the seal that is in the tranny where the shaft of the cv comes in to the tranny on the passenger side? are you supposed to replace this when you replace a cv joint? I replaced my joint, but, could not get the seal and was not completely sure that it is required to replace it. So, I took my chances and I think I screwed up. If anyone knows any info i appreciate it...

Given their cheap cost, it's better to replace them whenever you pull an axle unless it's less than a few thousand miles old.
