The Mesh covered piece of exhaust?

My car is a lowered 99 max se ltd. Every time I hit speed bumps, or go up uphill driveways, I always hear it scraping, so Ive tried to avoid it as much as possible. However, I now hear a leak in the exhaust, and I look under, and I see the exhaust smoke coming out slowly from this mesh covered piece of the exhaust system. Its all the way near the front of the car. The mesh is all scraped back, and looks to be hanging off. I dont want to go to an exhaust shop clueless, any info would be appreciated. You can leave it here, or IM me on AIM @ aeroeck.

Thanks in advance
Brian

I have the same car as you. I have not had this problem however. You have got to be just ramming your car too hard to scrape the flex section.

Anyway, I would not even go to a muffler shop. I would just go to Budgetperformance.com and get a new y-pipe. Not only will it stop your problem, it will add about 15-20 horse power. That will definitely solve your problems.

Man, im pretty low myself and i have NEVER EVER hit the flex section. Even on speed bumps very steep driveways/inclines. Ive only scrapped my exhaust tips.

I x3 the Budget Y-pipe purchase....

Actually I'm got on the GD for the warpspeed Y Pipe, so that should solve my problem.. Only problem I have now is determining if I'm a 99 or 99.5! This will be fun Anyways, thanks for the help, but I really have no clue how I messed up this piece this bad.. It was my first car lowered, and didn't realize just how low it was until I kept scraping away..

Any help in determining if I'm a 99 or 99.5 would be much appreciated.

Thank you
Brian

well, that is really easy, you should have badging on the side of your car that says SE Limited if you are a 99.5. Also, your wheels will be kind of a titanium color, and you will have titanium badging on the back of the trunk too. Plus, the mats on the inside should say SE Limited if you are 99.5.

If you don't have those things, I don't really know how to tell. But if you don't have those things, you are probably just 99. (I guess, help me out guys, if you find out that you are cali spec, then you have to be 99.5...............even though not all 99.5's are cali...I am fed.)

**Thanks for the support, fellas!

you know its possible that the flex was already messed up and u drove around and it would scrape, and push it back up, then it eventually just got a big hole in it

I think your flex pipe broke independently of your lowering your car. These things dont last forever. Especially if you really like to stomp on the gas pedal.

If you dont want an aftermarket Y pipe you might just want to buy a flex pipe and take it to the muffler shop so they can weld it on. You'll save a few bucks.

He has already bought a y-pipe from warpspeed.

I don't know other than what I told you for the badging. What about you other guys...would you say that he has a 99.5 because of the badging, even though he doesn't have the matts? I don't know how to tell otherwise.

Look at the emblems on your trunk. If its a 99.5 the "Nissan" hamburger will be noticeably shinier than the "maxima". Also, when you look at your gauges in direct sunlight, they should have a grayish-metallic flake look to them.

there has to be a way to tell with the VIN # or the numbers on the firewall though. I mean, so many people change the badging, gauges, and matts now days that it is hard to tell by that. I would have just said the stuff that you said, Bluebird. Anyone else?
