Which Light Bulb?

1. Sylvania Silverstars
2. Sylvania Xtravision
3. Philips Hi-Visibility
4. Philips Cool Blue

Hey guys. I want to change my light bulbs but I'm not sure which ones to go for. And no, HID is not an option though it is obviosly the best lighting you can get, but is very expensive.

Right now the Sylvania Silverstars are about $37 a pair regular price but PepBoys has a sale going for $34 plus a rebate that will throw it down to $22. The only thing is that rebates take forever. The Xtravision's are about $12 a piece.

The Philips Hi-Visibility are $17 a pair at K-Mart and the people over at the subaru forum seems to like it very much. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show.../t-303370.html
The Cool Blues are about $12 a piece.

According to this "Daniel Stern" website http://www.danielsternlighting.com/t...good/good.html
The Philips Hi-Vis, premium, Vision Plus; Sylvania XtraVision, Osram Silverstar(different from sylvania), and Narva RangePower are the best bet in non-HID lighting you can actually see with. Sorry for the long post but if you guys have any experience with any of these bulbs, please post your opinions.

Silverstars. I really like mine, but as was said above, they do suck in the rain. If you are in a rainy area, get something with a more yellowish tint than the silverstars. I've even gotten compliments on them.

Hmmm, looks like most of you guys recommend the sylvania silverstars. I hear they don't last very long. The Osram silverstars are suppose to be a lot better because it doesn't have the blue tint. It doesn't come in 9004 and only sold in European markets. Same company, different bulbs.

I have the Sylvania Silverstars. They are great on dry pavement, but I agree, no good in wet. I'm planning on going to PIAA Extreme Whites. How are they in the rain, though? I know PIAA does quality stuff.

What about Eurolites? Circuit City sells them. Don't buy Piaas, I had a pair and they look sweet, but they don't last long. Too expensive to be buring out every 4 months.

I have nokya"s (nokya is now called SPW). They are arctic purple pro halogen. I love them. They are almost as bright as my friend's S4's HID's. The only drawback is the highbeams are not very effective, unless you are on a completely dark road. This isn't an issue because the low beams are so good I almost never need the high beams. Signs are illuminated down the road more than half a mile. Rain visibility is fine. They are 45/65 watt, so they won't damage the wiring harness. They ran ~$20/pair on ebay shipped. Another one to look into are eurodezigns. They are D.O.T. approved, and carry a lifetime warranty. They are less than $20 shipped on ebay per pair.

I had Eurolites but they lasted between 5-6 months. They looked nice and matched my Polargs in the corner lights very well. The Silverstars I have now are better in dry weather, but the Eurolites were actually a little better in the rain.

i have phillips blue visions and i like them a lot. they're crisp white. i used to have nokya artic white but they were ricey as hell and melted my harnesses because i wasn't smart enough to upgrade the harnesses. i used to think they made visibility better, but after switching to the blue visions, i realized i was sadly mistaken and would never recomend using those pieces of crap again.

I have SilverStars and like them very much. I can't speak on life expectancy, as I've only had them for about 3 mos. Anyone else who has the SilverStars: what corners did you buy to match? Do they color match well?

I have Polarg Hyperwhite corners. The Polargs seem to have a very slight bluish tint to them compared to the Silverstars, but it's pretty minor. The Polargs matched my old Eurolites a bit better, but they still match fairly well.

i bought the sylvania xtravision and they are pretty nice. brighter than my stock lights and the lifespan is good. silverstars were double the price of these and dont last very long yet they look cooler. also, the xtravision work fine in the rain.

I have the APC superwhites, and they are.. eghhh... ok... I would do like the others say, and just save up for HIDs. They are getting pretty darn cheap nowadays. I just picked up a *brand new* 6000K McCulloch set for 310$ shipped!

You guys keep saying the nokya's fry wiring harnesses. However, mine are rated at the same wattage as stock: 45/65w. Were yours different? I am asking because I don't want to fry my wiring harnesses.

Thanks Business810
I found some cheap bulbs at WalMart, that also have a bluish tint, but look OK.
I don't remember the brand, though.

Now if I was in the market for PIAA's at $70+ a pair then at that price, I'd rather save up for the HID's. That is just too much for halogens.

I like my Xtravisions a lot, especially for the price. I just bought some PIAA Platinum Super White H3 fog light bulbs ($30 for both) rated at 3800K because they got some good reviews from other guys here. I also got some Xtreme White 1157 bulbs ($11 for both) which I'm guessing are rated near 4000K since that's what the Xtreme White 9004 bulbs are rated at. This is the only 1157 bulb that I think they have. I'm hoping they'll match my Xtravisions better than the ones that are currently in there (which look terrible). Anyone know what the Xtravisions K number is? I can't find it on Sylvania's web site.

For you guys with PIAA 9004s, have you been able to compare their Xtreme Whites (4000K) with their Platinum Super Whites (3800K)? Mainly curious if there's any difference in ability to see in rain.

Just got my new bulbs in. The H3s look pretty good. A little bit whiter than my Xtravisions, but still a close match.

The 1157 bulbs are pretty blue. They don't look good next to the Xtravisions at all, unless you like the blue thing. I'll probably get some amber 1157 bulbs.
