think i destroyed my transmission

Last week after i installed my warpspeed y-pipe i decided to take it for a spin. Once i floored it me and my GF hear a big kind of clank sound. NOw it seems like when ever i excellerate i hear this rattling sound. NOw this is only when im driving. To see if it was the engine or not when i got back to my friends place i put the car in park and just excellerated. No unusual noice there. It just happens when i first begin to excellerate at a moderate level. Do any1 think its still early to try to save it, or am i just going to have to make that manual swap a lot faster than i planned. Oh yeah approx how much would this swap be with labor and everything if i got a rebuilt tranny? I am also going to take my car to the nissan dealer sometime next week to get this checked out. Let me know what you all think.

Couldn't that noise just be from the ypipe banging into stuff? Don't go trashing your tranny yet... take a look at that ypipe first before u take it to some evil tranny shop.

btw its accelerate, not excellerate.

I've heard a lot of people say their Ypipes caused clanking noises. When I was talking to Dallas at WSP, he said that sometimes noises are caused by the Ypipe hitting the heatshield. If you talk to him about the problem, he has some custom parts for relatively cheap that MIGHT solve that problem. You could also try moving parts around to see if anything is rubbing. Good luck!

me and my friend got back under the car to do an inspection, but couldnt see anything rubbing. We even shook the y-pipe. Also remember i heard a big load clank right after i took off for the first time. I hope its just the pipe and not my tranny.

Your tranny is fine. I had the exact same problem when I first got my y-pipe and b-pipe. Just shaking it will not replicate the force that is put on the moving parts on hard acceleration. Check all the exhaust hangers and contact points. It is one of them that is clunking - I'll bet anything on that. Do not replace your tranny because of that.

Logically, how can replacing a Y-pipe mess up your tranny? Can it?

It's most likely the heatshield or cat making that noise.

I don't know about tranny.... but when I installed my WS Y-Pipe it made that clank/rattling noise too ONLY when I am accelerating when driving... No sound when car on neutral or park. I sorta took a guess and replaced my catalytic converter to a Car Sound Hi-Flow from WS and there was no more sound... Well that worked for me.... Hope this helps you a little bit more on your quest!

its the heatshield, i had hat problem a week and a half ago, i floored my car racing my friend for kicks, and after that i noticed a crapload of rattling, it would happen around 2000 RPM"s, i realized at 2000 RPM's its probalby the exact resonance that caused vibration, anyway i got undert he car and it was the heatshiled hitting the y-pipe., i used weatherproofing tape and padded it down. no more rattlings

Look on the passenger side rear bumper of you car. Find the tow hook and check to see if you exhaust is hitting the tow hook. THat is what happened to me when I had my WSP Y pipe and Apex I Ws catback installed. I changed out all my rubber exhaust hangers from the b pipe back and the noise went away. I also wedges some rubber in between my muffler and tow hook. Hope this helps

What do you all recommend to solve this problem? Will weather proofing tape work like some1 suggested? I just dont want to keep messing with it once i began. How about duct tape?

if your car shifts fine it has nothing to do with your tranny. trannys don't make noise from my experience at least they just go out with a bang. why you would think its your tranny is beyond me. your pipe is probably hitting a heat shield or you didn't tighten to bolts correctly.
