Started problem, not really the starter

Hello Maxima drivers

first I have a 96 Maxaima SE, all stock ( for now. . .)

I am having a problem, My car was having a difficult time starting, I would go to start the car, and it it would struggle to start but then start. At first I was told it was my starter, and that I would need to get a new starter, then I was informed it could be my battery not turning to the started over fast enough, So I got a new battery and it didnt fix the problem. TODAY I got a new started from advanced auto parts and the first time doing somewhat serious work under the hood and fourtunately I was able to change the starter and put in the new one, started up the car hoping that would solve my problem but it didnt, my car still drags when its starting up does anyone know what the probem may be? My friend though maybe the distrubutor or a bad sparkplug? What do you guys thinkg, it may be?

how can I tell if a spark plug is bad?

What tools do I need to check my spark plug?

They're cheap enough that if you bother to pull them out you may as well put new ones in (unless they are fairly new) Pull a copule of them and look for abnormal wear, deposits, gaps etc...

Just need allen wrench to remove the engine cover, phillips screwdriver to remove the coils, and ratchet set with extension and plug nabber (whatever it's called )

Shouldnt take more than 10-15 min to check a couple, 30-40 min or so to swap all for new.

Well I got up this morning to start my, my Max dragged like it did usually, then I tried it again and she started flawlessly a little hesitation ( like normal any other car would) started her about 5 times during the day and I shes started like normal, its good! so I'm going to check my spark plugs ( going to get the platinum tipped kind) and change those if necessary but the new started is working.

I guess using the new started in the night, or in the cold the started needed some heat not sure, but its working nicely.

thanks all.

Spark Plug Diagnostics

Dirt Bike Link: http://www.mztech.fsnet.co.uk/workshop/wrk_plugs.html

1975 Everything you ever wanted to know about sparkplugs: http://www.ingfatrygg.se/Spark_plug_diagnostics.html

HOpe that helps, I had one link that is really good, but I could not find it. :<

I would get copper if I were you. Do not waste your money on platinum.
You can get all 6 coppers for the price of one platinum.
There are tons of posts on copper plugs.
