Are o2 sensors interchangable??

I put a rear sensor where it wasn't supposed to go (before the CAT). I have a 99 Max. It's a long *** story, but will this sensor get damaged? Are these sensors built specifically for the place where they are placed or is the ony thing different about them the length of their wires?

The car runs fine, and I plan on fixing the mistake but not for a few days.

The two upstreams are interchangeable but the one downstream is unique.

According to http://www.oxygensensors.com your front and rear sensors are different. If you look at the part numbers:
Front: Universal Walker $44.95 250-23000
Rear: Universal Walker $46.95 250-24000

The front has 3 wires (250-23000) and the rear has 4 wires (250-24000). The sizes of the sensors might be the same so I don't think it'll be damaged.

How many wires does the rear O2 sensor have? The fronts are heated so they have 3 wires. I'm sure youre fine though.

Id did the same thing almost, i bought the front sensor instead of the middle one, then i just put the one that i replaced and was really a good sensor in to the sport of the broken one. The wire was alittle shorter but it workerd fine.

Now the one i bought new broke but i think its cause of me doing something wrond with my air fuel gauge i think, i dunno.

My bad i think all the sensors have 4 wires.

They are easy to change with the correct tools.

Thanks for your replies guys. Did you guys notice on your cars that the right bank sensor conector does not plug in at the top of the engine compartment where the other 3 plug in? (in front of the manifold cover that says V6 on it.) I assume I am supposed to use the plug down below because there's no way the sensor I bought is long enough. It's only about 18 inches in length.
