Rear Alignment
Rear Alignment
The problem is that I used Michelin Pilot tires for less than a year and I got excessive wear. The wear is mainly on the inner of the tires in the rear. Various mechanics told me that no alignment is possible and I would have to buy new tires every now and then. The suspension is stock on my 95 max. Has anyone seen this problem and how was it fixed? Also, any comments on replacing the rear axle by a used or new would make a difference? Are there aftermarket mods that would eliminate the problem and increase performance?

in the rear if your going to upgrade it right do all new products. KYB makes a good suspension setup for maximas. Run a tein spring you'll be happy. Since the rear is a straight axle no alignment can be performed. Check your tires air pressure regularly too that is one a big cause of premature tire wear.
Well, they are right in saying that there is no way to align the rear suspension. The camber, castor, and toe-in are all fixed and can't be changed in the back. I can see buying new tires "every now and then" if you are putting an insane amount of miles on your car, but even then the wear would be even and it still wouldn't be this quickly.
It sounds like you have a bigger suspension problem (maybe an axle or something) but I don't know a whole lot about that sort of thing.

The tire wear is really big. It's almost to the wire on one side and almost none on the other. I've only gone 20k mi on these and had them regularly balanced. It looks as if the problem increased because six months ago when the tires were balanced last the problem wasn't so abvious. I just don't want it to be an every 15-20k expense of at least 2 new tires.
Help plz?
