start sanding my car?

well my car really needs a paint job and this last weekend my car got hit and run so there a pretty big dent in the door. how much money would it save me to sand the car down myself and then take it to a bodyshop to get it painted? also i need to get the 1 foot by 1 foot dent fixed and was wondering how hard it would be, i've worked with bondo and fiberglass a lot and was thinking i could pop it out then smooth it out with a thin layer of bondo. any suggestions? thanks

yea poping the dent out and then puting bondo/fiberglass over it, but u don't want have ur dent preaty deep and then put bondo over it, that's what i pounded the dent out as close as i can get it and then bondo'ed it, it came out great, now i donno how much money u would save on sanding it your self....u should call and ask around.

It depends where you are getting it painted. A real shop won't like it and won't give you much if any $$$ off. If your going to MAACO, do as much prep yourself as possible. Remove window trim and sand the rock chips on front bumper and hood. MAACO does bad prep but paint is paint, so if you do good prep yourself you will end up with a nice finished product.
