Well I was surprised this old camera of ours took some ok shots. Its on its last leg and needs to be retired. That said here are some pictures of the hood on the car.

felix im 50/50 with it. it has grown on me a little, and you may be right. still working on a race spec maxima .. so to speak, and the hood was first and foremost for weight savings.

the stock hood: 45 pounds
cf hood: 28 pounds
weight savings: 17 pounds

was hoping for more

 

i honestly dont like the carbon fiber look but for some reason it really works on your car as is. I kinda envy u since u have a car that is show and go. Looks good keep it up.

AE headlights might look pretty good with it.

I am not usually a fan of the cf stuff, but it looks good on your car. I mean, I am with felix, and I think yours looked a little better before, but I do like the new hood with your dark wheels. That looks tight. That is probably why I even like it okay on your car. Keep up the modding.

I personally don't like unpainted cf hoods on light colored cars, looks too much like a beater with 3 different colored doors to me, and the hood pins are a little rice for me. but other than that it looks like a quality product and the fit is good. I try to say atleast one nice thing...

 

Looks good, but that just draws too much attention (cops hate rice!) not to say your car is rice but that's all they'll see. So basically what I'm trying to say is, you should get it painted. That's just my .02

I read your review about the fitment of Redline's hood and Im still considering getting it. Most aftermarket parts dont fit "perfect"

i dont want to be too overally critical of this hood. it is an aftermarket product and judging by the photos or viewing in person your eye wouldnt catch the same imperfections like the owner would. i am satisfied, but was looking for something better in fitment, and condition.

For the price I paid I believe it was good/fair.

 

So, is it better to pay the extra cash and go with Fiber Images??
Anyone know what the fiber images hood weighs....Jime???
Hows the qaulity of the FI hood?
I thought I had read a while back they also had fitment issues.

What I can tell from seeing Fiber Images cf hood on Supa Lao's Maxima.. it is few pounds lighter compared to the ones I sell, only because the underside support to the overall structure is virtually non-existant. If you are looking for more weight reduction (ie 20lbs +/-), then you would have to sacrifice the structural integrity of the product.

Ange, hows the fitment issue of the FI compared to yours?
Im still leaning towards redline, I just dont want any major fitment issues.
I can deal with it being slightly heavier then the FI, its still lighter then stock and especially if its sturdier.

 

The fitment was pretty decent on the REdline CF hood. The only problem with mine was when you lift the hood up, the edge rbs the side of the fender near the windshield. I have some pics if you want, and they are pretty flush:

check those out. one other thing is... Ive hade my hood for about 5 months... Under the clearcoat, im starting to see some "dents" in the CF... I don't know if thats a defect, or if its just me... hmm.

The primary difference was that the FI hood a)weighed less and b)there was a lot more flex going on (due to the lack of structural support underneath).

ange is correct on that, the one thing i havent mentioned is that the hood latch is great. with the hood pins and latch you couldnt blow this hood off doing 220 mph.

again, i just want to share this is the first cf hood i have had. it stands to reason that you will have things to work out. adjusting the hood for fitment and such.

There were a few customers (about 5 of over 80 hoods sold in 2003) that experienced 'dent-like' issues with the hood. That was corrected in the second production with a brand new structural molding for underneath the hood.

The hood looks great but if you could save double the weight wouldnt that be worth $200 more?

With the 28lbs it seems like its a fiberglass hood with a film of carbon fiber

 

Do you know how they fixed that problem? can you POP them out? or do you have to replace the hood? thanks.

A carbonfiber hood is a hood with real carbonfiber wrapped around it. Just like Ionic's carbonfiber front spoiler lip.. it's a lip wrapped in carbonfiber. The skeleton is fiberglass, that's the industry standard for 95% of aftermarket carbonfiber hoods.

There we go... its looking good personally, I dont like CF on light cars... too flashy, and for people that dont know what it is, they think you havent painted your hood yet. I like the subtle look on dark cars because people who arent knowledgable dont know, and people who ARE, appreciate it for what its worth. I would definately avoid the CF lip. It would look ugly with a CF hood and a lip... and having the white bumper in between. if you are gonan go lip and hood, might as well get the whole front CF.. hood bumper, fenders, etc.
