I want to know if anyone has ever shaved your body cladding? ( Door Bumpers ) or what ever you want to call them. The colour matched stick on plastic stips on you doors?????

I have to replace a couple and they are pretty expensive and I was wondering what it might look like with out anything on the doors at all.

i did the next best thing possible. i upgraded to 2k2 maxima door moldings. they look better and make my max stand out more than the old skinny ones. you have to do some work to them to make them fit but not that hard and look better.

i took them off in preperation to shave them, but now i have change my mind to i30 moldings. when you take them off it leaves a channel behind them. you would have to weld, fiberglass, etc. over the indention and then fill and sand until smooth. looks good but its alot of work.

yea, i shaved my body lines off and to me, it looks better than before. there still is a little line there, but over all it looks alot smoother and cleaner. i say do it, but thats just my opinion

3rd genners just remove them and leave the dimple there, in my opinion it looks better.

I shaved them off on my 3rd gen...in fact I was the first and maybe the only guy to fill them in after shaving them...They STILL look good on that car...my sister drives that...but on my 4th gen, I think I'm gonna keep them...at least...for right now..but I've seen them without...and it does look good as well but to each his own.

yes i30 moldings. the chrome strip matches the strip on the bumper of the i30/cefiro front end conversion i'm going to do. my body is smooth enough anyway (well not since my wreck) but its just about completely shaved. need something to break up all that black.

how about the back then. it might look weird when the chrome stips ends on the doors and does not appear on the rear bumper. also find the moldings that are not faded out cause after a while they fade out. oh and on darker cars, the moldings have a different film on them and ligher cars have the brighter chrome strip.

I am not a fan of those ridiculous low riders, but I got to say your Max looks sweet. And I do like the dimple on the doors.

i was planning on buying new ones, but good info on the color differences. as for the rear, i photoshopped it and it didn't look that bad, but now i'm thinking custom molded lexus gs bumper.

Are we talking about the rubber molding about half way up on your doors? They are like little bumper stopers, right? I thought that if we shaved these, there was holes underneath them and you would have to fill them in. Am I right or am I thinking of the wrong thing??? Can someone please post some pics?

thats why they said shave, not remove. you know, like when you shave the door handles you fill them in. same thing

yes, there are holes under the moldings. you have to fill those in. i was thiniking about shaving them but then i put 5th gen moldings on.

no holes under the 3rd gen ones, not that it matters in a 4th gen forum
