Odometer and trip stopped working. FIX?
#3
steveme, I dont want to hi-jack this thread, but since I came across it while seeking a very similar issue, and because I can't yet create my own threads, I wanted to ask for a similar solution: My RPM meter (tachometer is it?) jumps around like a wild goose whenever I press the accel. I'm guessing there's not too many DIY guides on neither the Odometer or the Tachometer since i've looked for about an hr on google and searched these forums. I have no clue as where to find these.

I had this exact same thing happen about a month and a half ago.
It just works maybe 1 out of 20 times and only works for maybe 10-20miles and stops again.
I think I'm just going to try a new cluster when I do my 5 speed swap. That will narrow it down whether its wiring somewhere, or a bad cluster.

I've run into the same problem. I took the cluster apart to see if there was an obvious problem to this but didn't find anything. I don't know what I need to do to fix this. Both trip and odometer are dead and its been like this since last summer. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

yes for Xservice you will need a new nissan tachometer under $70 from dealer. You have to take it apart and seperate it from the old cluster.
ZeroK and SteveMe the best thing you can do is get a NEW CALIBRATED NISSAN OEM CLUSTER get ready to spend 150 bucks for this bad boy. There is no wires and cables with the cluster everything is electronic and these fail quite often on 95-97 maximas. I am having a similar issue and am ordering a cluster as soon as I get some cash. the dealership will need your vin# and proof of mileage.
ebay is option as well but many.orgers dump thier busted clusters on there so beware!

I had the same thing happen on my 96 SE. The tach jumped around. I replaced the tach out of a dash cluter I bought on ebay. The cluster I bought had a bad odometer, but the speedo worked fine. My suggestion is replace the speedo. And for the one that had a bad tach replace that.
