Rattling noises from the dash

My 97 Maxima with 154 k makes a lot of rattling noises from the dash whenever I go over rough roads. The noise comes from the air vents.I am positive that there are several lose screws in there. I guess the previous owner had to open the dash for some reason but left the screws untightened. Does anyone know how to check for those screws or is there is schematic for the dash.

I think I have the same problem, and my dash is not loose. Its the big long vent going across the dash up top. Take it out and try driving it, that my help you out. I know what I have to do. Hope this helps.

i doubt someone opened up the dash, unless it was in a front end collision. none the less, if you just take out all the panels, cluster, glovebox, controls, etc. you can get to every screw. just focus on the area thats making noise.

OK, but how do I take out the big vent. Can you just pull it out from the top?

This is the instructions on how to take out the stock HU, you basically have to do the same thing to get to those vents... minus the sterio removal...

It gets pretty tough getting it out the first time...(almost like your going to break it..) be rough with it but dont hurt it (kinda like a girlfriend? hehe )

there are pins at the top those will break if you try to take them out from the top part of the fan first... pull from the bottom and then towards you...a screw driver with a towel will do the job then stick your finger in the crack to pull, when it comes out it will sound like it broke in have...but it didnt...at least it SHOULDNT...remember..? girlfriend?...

:P

The color red all over its body.....

No, really...look for Flavor247's sig somewhere with the white wheels. They are tight. You ought to get something like that but in a gunmetal color or something.

Yes you can, but I have a 1999 which I think is the same as yours. I used a flat head screw driver, popped right up. I need to stick something flexible in between the the vent and the dash(where it locks in). I have not done that yet, but I know that is what makes the noise in my dash. I know that some dealers sell kits for that(Lincoln-Mercury). Nissan might have them too, I never asked. Hope this helps.
