Well, Since I am a member at Maxima.org, and everyone here owns Maxima. I am making this Poll to see what is the Most Problem people having with their 99 Maxima. I am only doing this because I want to know for my self. Since the time I started with maxima.org I did not see any post about some of the problems I am having with my 99 Maxima. If there was a post like this past, Please Remove my post and sorry about posting this.

The most common problems with 99's are probably the Ignition coils and O2 sensors.

Yea we may have a few problems, I know the rear struts go out early, previous service records show the rear left strut was replaced around 35k miles, now I checked and my rear right strut is leaking.

Not sure what a coil pack is ( ) but I do hear rattling sounds from the trunk. I think it's the speaker mounts. Could be from all the loud techno music I play. And I also hear a clicking sound from the engine while idling. Don't know what it could be, but other than general maintenance, that's all I know that's wrong with it.

Well if you use low grade gas, it will make the car ping, and similar noise to clicking. Well my Knock sensor is bad, and now my car pings. I always use 93 Octane gas. Right now the car burns a lots of gas.

What exactly would a coil pack problem produce??

I have had no problems (knock on wood) other then an O2 sensor.

For some reason the 99's coils are manufactured by a different company or something and they seem to fail more often than other years. The common problem is misfire, because the firing event never takes place due to lack of spark.

It reduced power and causes a rich condition in the exhuast, which can cause the O2 sensor and catalytic converter to prematurely fail. Not exactly a catastrophic problem, but still not really good.

37k miles so far and I have none of these problems. Only problem I had was the cam position sensor slowly leaking oil (sensor plugs into timing chain cover). Swapped the seal out and that was that.

You mean shocks. Struts in the front, shocks in the rear.

Interesting. I thought all 4th gens had front struts and rear shocks but after looking a bit I found this...

1999's w/ rear multi link suspension (meaning shocks I assume)...
http://www.carsdirect.com/research/n...9/gxe/features

1995's w/ rear strut suspension...
http://www.carsdirect.com/research/n...5/gxe/features

Were the 95's & 96's equipped with independent rear suspension? I thought that was only 3rd gens...

It is very confusin with the struts or shocks, lots of manuels say shocks, but they are deffinetely struts under there.

The coils are the only thing that I have had in question for my 99. It is an intermittent problem, that comes and goes. It will hesitate at about 3500 rpm, and then pull hard all the way to redline after about 4k rpm. Oh, and my max has 90k on it. I have original struts and springs, and the ride is great!

After 107K, all I have replaced are:

* EGR temp. sensor
*drivers side headlight bulb (twice)
Once in a while, I get a squeeking sound from the rear uper strut mounts, but other than that, solid as a drum.
