HELP Need to replace my 98 GLE alternator
This is kind of a crisis for me since I've been laid off and now the alternator on my 98 GLE is toast. Fricking NTB where I took it to get tested told me they can't do it cause they have to slide the engine forward(?) Well being an apartment dweller makes it that much funner, but I was looking at it it looks like it would come off with just a radiator hose and maybe the fan. Is this right? If I get it to my dad's garage will I be able to get it off? I can't see the lower bolt but I was in my nice coat and of course I didn't feel like removing the hose before I'm ready to fix it. Anyone know where I can get a good one cheap? I've seen some remanufactured Bosch ones online for $145 at buyautoparts.com and nissanpartstore.com, but they are showing a different one from 7/96 - 5/98 and 6/98 - 3/99, I think these are like the same website or something, are they ok or do you know anything about them? When I called autozone they didn't ask about the date, do I have to ensure I get the right date range? I know that's a lot of questions and I sound like a noob, any help would be really helpful :grinno

Check the www.nissanusa.com website. Your alternator just might be covered under recall. I had mine replaced free even though I'm the third owner because the alternator was recalled. Once you get to the website, go to 'owning' then click on recall info. Depending on your VIN # you may be eligible.
