ECU self test did not work on a '95 CA

My check engine light is on and I tried doing the self-test on the ECU, but nothing happens. I tried it many times, waiting 2 seconds before turning the screw back, engine warmed up or cold, etc. The check engine light just stays on steadily when the blinking is supposed to happen.

My Max is a GLE '95 California, so I suppose I should also be able to use an OBD-II reader, but I'm wondering how well that works with the 95-CA because it is not fully OBD-II compliant. Does anyone know what ODB-II functionality is missing from the 95-CA Max?

Funky ECU?

Perhaps my ecu is funky and cannot self-test. Has anyone ever seen this problem?

Turn the screw clockwise til it stops, don't bother waiting, and turn it back til it stops again. The light SHOULD flash.

Does the screw stop and gets met with a bit of resistance when you turn it?

Thanks...I took the "don't turn past stop" line literally. The screw control needs to be turned a good 30-40 degrees past the line. I heard some relays click under the hood when it reached the max clockwise position.

(The label should say "don't force past the stop".)
