I know that it is possible to put a 5spd in an Auto but can you put an Auto in a 5spd. Has anyone ever done this? Does it throw codes? Are there parts of the wiring harness that just wont fit?

Yes, its possible, but it will be more difficult than the auto to 5 speed conversion, the real question is....why?????

Yup, Id say 95 percent of the maximas that I see for sale are AUTO.

The reason why i need to know if it is possible is I have two cars, 98 Maxima (auto), and a 98 i30 (5spd). Basically swapping everything out of the two cars, then getting rid of the i30 as an auto, since people who buy i30s want the auto anyway. I know the 5spd in the max will go in fine, I'm just wondering if the max auto tranny will work in the i30.

if i were you, i'd try to get in contact with jeff at maxtuning because if i remember correctly, he's done this swap for a few members. or just talk to the people who have done the auto --> 5 spd, i'm sure they'd know if it's possible to reverse it.

i'd think even the ecu's would be able to be swapped no problem. i just don't know if the whole thing has been done before.

i also think you should sell the i30 as a 5 spd because they're so rare, you might be able to get more for it because they're hard to find.

I recently talked to jeff and he had never done a 5spd to auto conversion. So I'm guessing that no one has ever done this before?

I am keeping the maxima. The maxima is my car and is the way i want it. The i30 is either being a donor car for the maxima or is being resold. I'm not starting over on the i30.

Because for the auto, more electronics, for example, I am guessing you would have to swap the entire engine harness, because for autos, you have the TCM (transmission control module), and the drop resistor is also part of the automatic harness. Also there are misc items to consider, like speed sensors, back up light etc...

sounds like a pain. I am with the other guys, just keep the max, if that is what you want to do, and sell the I30 because of the 5spd rarity. I wish I had VLSD.
