Replaced belts, WHAT a Difference!!!

Hey people, I replaced my belts day before yesterday and I can tell a HUGE difference in my Max. Idle is more stable and quicker response when you get on it.

First off, I really wanted to express how much of a biatch the power steering belt is to get off. Did anyone else have as much trouble as I did? A 1 hour job ended up taking me about 5!!! I finally came inside and looked at my Haynes manual again and realized there was one bolt BEHIND the pulley on the pump that needed to be loosened. Boy was that a tight fit!!! Praise to the designers on that one...

But anyways, just wanted to put my .02 in about that. And anyone that is overdue for a belt change, I suggest you get your *** out there and do it! You will be happy you did it!

That really sucks man... Mine were all corroded(sp?) and it took all I could to get them off without breaking. I think I rounded off the big bolt I was talking about, behind the pulley. Unless you wear gloves, prepare to get scratches all over your hands from the wheelwell!

Are these the belts that are supposed to last the life of the engine?

No, no, no... They should be replaced every 50k or so. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, I pretty much had no choice but to replace them. They were squeeling very badly, and it was so embarassing starting my car with ppl in the parking lot. My max sounded like a d@mn clunker. When I got the powersteering belt off, it was glazed over all to hell.

the timing chain is the one that last the life of the engine. There is no car out there that doesnt need maitannce on belt. And for those that arent planing on chainging them , it will suck when they break.

The belts should be changed when pieces of the ribs start breaking off or if the belt has 60K miles. You guys that are thinking the belts should never be replaced are thinking of the timing chain. That should never need to be replaced.
