the reason you hear so much crap that you didn't when you 1st bought your car is because all the seals and rubber is worn. replace all the rubber around your doors, sunroof, etc. replace all weather stripping you know. then add 200lbs to your car with a crap load of sound deadening material and fill you pillars with rags/sand. then you will be quiet

Cascade is also very good but very expensive. They claim its 1/2 the price and 1/2 the weight of dynamat. I'm not sure I like the weight savings becuase more weight deadens sound but hey...I like the cheaper stuff.
I got some "B-Quiet" off ebay a few years back and it helped out a little, don't expect it to be like putting on some Bose noise cancelling headphones or anything. They all basically do the same thing, which is change resonant frequency. They have some stuff on EBay for decent, or if you are rich just get Dynamat brand. The spray works well too but you would have to coat it on a few times to get it the thickness of the stuff on mat. There is a sticky in the audio forum on sound deadening for more info. If you have road noise you can add a another layer of carpet padding under your stock carpet and that helps kills the noise a little too.
I used the spray on stuff on one of my previous cars, and it worked fairly well, probably not as good as dynamat though. I think there is a kind of shelf lining you can use from Home Depot that helps deaden sound, I can't remembr what it is though. I am looking into this myself, to kill the trunk lid rattles from the box and the doors as well. Plus since I did the suspension I have the infamous dash squeak going on as well. Where are those darn SFC's?

I've got about $150 worth of Cascade in my car, and it made a HUGE difference. Speaker quality is amazing now (stock BOSE), road noise is reduced aswell as exhaust noises. Now ive invested $150 into Second Skin Audio's deadening and the car will be even more quiet.
pull up your carpet and toss in a few cheap floor mats under each section, couldnt hurt and if you hit a dollar store you might could get front and rear for 10 -15 dollars ? dollar store ? but the extra layer over the sound deadening and under he carpet might help.
Another idea I used on my old 94 max was taking some leftover matting I bought at Lowe's for the kitchen floor when I installed some laminate wood crapola. It helped a bit, pretty thin too. I think it was only around $50 bucks for about 100 sq ft of it. Come's in a large roll and you can cut it to fit certain areas.
I did the shelf liner for my doors. Wish I could measure the decibel reduction. I am guessing I was about at 68 db before and sitting at 61 db now. Most of the noise is from tires and doors (windows especially).
Can't remember how much I paid. Probably got four rolls at around 8 bux each so 32 bux. Was worth it.

CASCADE AUDIO! compared to dynamat its lighter, half the price, and works twice as good! (ive used both). available at sounddomain.com. its a completely different material used that i dont think any other company uses.
and my reasoning for choosing 'ive lost my hearing from driving' is because of my sound system, not outside noise.

Curious to know how much you got and how much of your car you dampened up with it. I was hoping to get just one shop pak and do my 4 doors and rear deck. Think I'll come up just short, or will it be plenty?
Sound deadening and you
SO yeah, heres some basics about deadening. There are 2 main types of deadeners on the market today; Liquid or Mat type Mass loaders, and acoustic filters (closed cell foam and the like). We are mostly concerned with mass loading. What mass loading is is loading the panel with more weight, making it harder to move/vibrate/rattle. For instance, tap on your computer. Take a magazine and tape it to the inside of that panel and tap again. See what i mean? Sound deadeners are put in 2 basic categories, rubberized asphalt (RA), and butyl rubber(BR). RA is much less expensive thatn BR, but it happens to get soft in the heat, and brittle in the cold... which is very unfavorable. Also RA happens to smell like... well.. asphalt. BR is much easier to work with most of the time, and nowadays it is getting a lot less expensive. The biggest differences in mat types are their thickness (measured in mils) and their weight per sq ft (more is better). Acoustic filters should be placed over your mat type deadener especially in doors and on the floor, as it helps filter out higher frequency noises (IE Wind noise, etc). Trust me on this, if i can make my 91 240sx hatch (See, "Giant Tin Can") sound like a lexus inside with only a weekend of work, you can too.
Also some pointers. Stay away from dynamat. Its HORRIBLY overpriced... and not that great. Aerosol type spray deadeners are gay, expensive, and pretty useless. I bought 75 sq ft of Elemental Designs eDead v1 mat and a gallon on their v3 liquid deadener for a little over $150. It did a lot of good... but i kept going. If money is no object, go with Second Skin Damplifier or Damplifier pro. These are by far the best deadeners your money can buy... hands down.
I wanted my first post to be a good one lol.

I went out and bought air duct insullation. It's the same material as dynamat. Cost about $15 a roll, and it comes in a 1X15 ft. roll and is 1/4" thick (it's made by "frost king" and you can buy it at home depot, or lowes). It works well, I used it on my floor, my rear license plate, front doors, rear deck, and trunk. Very noticeable difference in the reduction of road noise. I also used some spray foam ("great stuff", I think it was called... $6.00 a can or so) on the inside of my trunk lid to eliminate the trunk lid from rattling. It worked. For about $150 for everything, can't go wrong.
