My Review of Mobiletek's VB mod..

Today we installed the VBmod, unforunately I wasnt there early enough to see how you take the original core off, but from what my mechanic told me is that, in the list of instructions they dont tell you have to pop a little sensor like thingy that's in the core out, to switch in the other one. And if you pop it out, your most likely gonna have to be a new one from the dealership. I dont know how he did, but it swaped the cores, its a simply swap, and screw back in type of deal. I didnt it was much trouble, (remeber thou I wasnt there for the beginning nor the middle, just the end) Oh dont forget to clean out the radiator/or hoses that connect to itto clean out any crud from the orginal tranny. Now everyone said finding a spot to put the tranny cooler is a pain in the ***. Not really, just hook it up to on front of the radiator, there only one thing you really need to do, hook the two hoses from the cooler back to the tranny, and the radiator (I got to do this!!!!). And thats it. Once we did that, we then dropped in like 6quarts of tranny fluid, probably more! We turned on the car, checked the shifts, gave it a little gas, check the tranny fluid etc.....Did this about 3 times, went thru all the gears, N, R, D, P, 1, 2. (the car was on a lift) then we brought her down, and I got to drive it around. This what I thought:

Shifts are clean, crisp, and quick. It jumps from gears almost. There pratically no lag time. 1-2 is normal, 2-3 is FAST, 3-4 FASTER (the needle jumps, instead of slowly going up). The backlash feeling isnt harsh at all, its more like when you floor it, and let go of the gas, you feel that little backlash? (get me?) I wont know for sure how good it is yet, until tomorrow night!!! But soo far soo good!

I was thinking of doing the Mobiletek VB. Post back if u have any problems. Is the shifting really better than a 5-speed?

happyricefob- lol. yes. why could you not? they are seperate mods? in the other thread you seemed to know all about the DRmod and aftermarket VBs for our cars. what happened? amnesia?

happyricefob- mine kicks ****. shifting is faster then a 5 speed, however the fact we have 4 gears still screws us.

nismomaxman-where the cooler goes is easy in front of you condenser. mounting it there correctly is a ***** i found. sure you could use zip ties and do it the cheap way but using the mounting kit hayden supplies is fun times. glad the install wasn't hard even if you didn't do it yourself. enjoy the fast shifting i do!

The drop resistor mod WILL kill your trans. It is not good to be shifting at full line pressure, our trannies are not made for that.

Just swap to a 5 speed, one thing you will get is the PULLLL of the 5 speed power.

dmontzmax-drmod used during daily driving will kill tranny. occasional track use it fine. why waste time shifting my car when i can be doing more important things like grabbing at the chick in the seat next to me.

hey, I can still talk on the phone and grab my chick. It is better with a stick, your hand slides a bit to the left on the shifter and brushes and it is an accident, how do you explain that with an auto?

what stage did you put in, sounds like two from what you described.
its a big difference that you'll notice immediatley and when i went
from 2 to 3rd stage it was even more incredible. your gonna give some five speeds some serious comp..also which cooler are you using b&m
or hayden..ggod luck and go kick some a$$.....

i know a lot about drop resistor mod, but not VB mod. i didn't bother to get into the details regarding maximum tuning and mobiletek VB mod. that's why i was curious about whether both drop resistor and mobiletek VB mod will work together.

from my past experience with drop resistor on my auto, 1-2 shifts hella hard, always chirp. 2-3 is pretty hard, 3-4 not too bad.

if combining mobiletek VB and drop resistor mod, i bet you will chrip every gear. but i don't know if you will damage the tranny though...

LOL, speaking of giving 5spd comp, I ran today against a 98-99 grandam gt on the street (hope its ok to post this already) (I won!), he was stick, and well I'm auto. At the end of the run, he asked, "Hey! What are you stick or auto?" I replied "AUTO!" he looked at me in disbelief, and turned the other way (most likely thought I was lieing) anyhow, I havent tested it fully just yet, but you do feel the shifts, they are quick, and they are clean. So far soo good, again, lets see some numbers at the track, and I'll be assured it was money well spent. THe tranny cooler is a Hayden. I'm gonna try a torque converter, soon, hopefully I will be a BADA FAST AS AUTOMATIC

Put it on Maxima Todd, not having a y-pipe isnt gonna make it fun! DO both ASAP, and your gonna have a great time!! So far I like it, feels more sporty, but time will tell. I have to send out my old core tomorrow (Dammit I was hoping I could mess with it)

man! i'm still waiting for them to ship me mine. hopefully i'll be gettin it by next fri. anyways....i'm glad the install and everything was easy and there is nothing wrong with the vb mod. is it ok to be driving hard on a new vb mod when you first install it or do you need to "break it in" first?
p.s. couldnt have been a 98-99 grand am. theyre two diff body styles. thats like me saying i raced a 99-00 maxima. oh and the stick grand am gt is slower than the auto.

You have to drive it easy when you first install it to make sure you gears work, and its shifting correctly, after you drive it around normally (slow and cautious) and think its safe. Then you can rage the ShlT out of it. Oh as far as the grand am goes, its a 97 or something, it wasnt new, but it wasnt old looking either, dont know, sorry but I'm better on Nissan Cars.

Combining the two will not give any better performance.

You can only get FULL line pressure No more. The DR mod gives you full line pressure.

The VB Mod give you higher line pressure than stock, not full line pressure. What you get depends on what level you get.

The are achieved different ways as well. The DR mod is done 100% electrically. The VB mod is done mechanically by changing spring pressures etc.

My preference is the DR mod because when hooked to a WOT it only works with the pedal to the metal which is what I want. I don't want my trans shifting any faster at part throttle, its fine just the way it is, the shifts are fairly quick and the only time they get slow is when he car is WOT.

It gets even worse when you add additonal HP, the more HP you have the slower the trans shifts at WOT.

To me the VB mod is a compromise between driveability and "lets get it on". T he DR mod is a track or WOT mod only.

For the street racer or guys who play on the street the VB Mod is probably better for you. For the track its DR all the way for maximum performance.

well i got my mobiletek vb on today. first impression is very good. shifts are so quick i dont even notice them. 1-2 is smoother than before, and the others are the same. i did notice the little kick when downshifting but so far im happy. cant wait to take it out tonight and really find out what it can do! its too bad i wasnt able to get my y pipe on today. maybe next weekend. the dang VB and cooler install took us about 5 hours. =(

hell yeah is right NISMOMAN. i opened it up tonight. all i can say is THIS THING IS NO LESS THAN AMAZING. well worth the money and time that went into it. I feel like im a manual now. my freakin car feels WAY faster. i no way expected what i got from it. im very satisfied. second gear pulls hard and quick because the lag is eliminated which i wasnt expecting to be so drastic. this thing is great. im glad i didnt put the y pipe in at the same time because then i wouldnt have known that i got so much out of the VB. but i think when i get that on, im gonna be quite pleased! i would recommend the VB to anyone with an auto. i never noticed just how much my autotragic sucked before i had this!!

It makes your car um... shift faster, you know how when you step on it (if you do) it can feels slow, and it takes a while before you can hear the engine.. Well this stops that, when you step on it, your feel it, there is no lag, or waiting for the shift to kick in. If you have paypal, you can get it for $250 shipped, all you do is pay for install, it cost me around $150, plus the tranny cooler which is $40, the offer ends on 17th. anyone questions email me, I know someone else can explain what it does to the car, better than I can.
