struts and springs?

i have a stock 97 gxe and want to upgrade the suspension. I have a strut brace bar on order. As far as the struts, there is a set without springs going on ebay. Is it necessary to get the springs with the struts, or can i just use my stock springs with the new TOKICO HP STRUTS? please help, the auction ends in 22 hours. thank you

You can use just the struts w/ stock springs. It will ride better than stock, but handling will not improve by much, if at all. You will have a more comfortable ride on aftermarket struts and OEM springs, BUT if you ever plan to upgrade springs, it is best to do it all at once unless you are doing it yourself.

Yes. And it will cost no more to install or take no more time (if you are installing it yourself).

Word to the wise- springs do not really wear out, so buying them used can save a bunch of cash.

Thanks for posing the suspension link. I haven't read it yet but will soon. My 97 GXE is ready for new shocks and I am looking into my options. I will not be doing the install myself.

My plan is to find out what I want first then get quotes from people if I supply the parts or if they do. Anyone got any tips? I'm in Houston if anyone knows of a place that they could reccomend.

H&Rs go well with the Tokicos. A more harsh spring will wear the tokicos out much more quickly, and you will have a more bumpy ride...maybe not @ first, but somewhere down the road.

Speaking from experience.

Dude, check out the group deal forums here on maxima.org. There are some struts that you could get shipped cheaper than the ones on ebay. I saw those that you were looking at and they are good, but I think the Illuminas for $425 shipped are better. Check them out. Also, there are group deals on other struts/springs in the groups deals.
