problem with taking out the grill

ok, so i'm trying to take out the grill so i can install my home depot mesh. so i did what others have said and stuck a flathead between the grill and car(the part right next to the headlight. and when i turned the flathead, the clip broke off. so now the left side of my grill is a little wobbly and i'm afraid to try the other side cuz i might end up with a VERY loose grill.

is it possible that the cold weather made the piece snap off? it was about 35-40 degrees when i was trying this. please help!!!!
