5th gen projectors in 4th gen write up?

As the Hanabi kits have been crapping left and right, I have no other choice but to get a new aftermarket HID kit...or do i?

I've heard 5th gen HID kits can be retrofitted in a 4th gen, but how hard is it? Is there a write up floating around here?

just out of curiosity, if i end up with an AM HID kit, what is the best kit availiable? Thanks for your opinions.

First, 5th Gen has no projectors.
Second, I don't think the bulb from a 5th gen will fit.
Third, You can use the ballast from it and buy some 9004 HID replacement bulbs for around $100 and use those with the OEM ballest.

i got 5th gen hid's in my 4th gen. . . (for those who are about to flame me: they are legit, so back off)

took me about 4 hours to do the install...

not much modification at all to the 9004 housing to make the h4 fit in there....

there's just one little ring (like a seal) that i put in the 9004 housing before putting in the h4 bulb in there... it fits perfectly, i can take the bulb out, i can turn it left & right....just like stock...

i can take pictures & do a little write up, but it's gonna have to wait till at least the weekend.. snow is coming our way tonight & the garage is filled with 3 cars that we're working on. . .

but oem hids are the best thing you could do. . . i've had mine for about 8 months & i couldn't be happier. . .

write up to follow soon....

I know H4 is a bulb Maybe my question was not clear. Can we use any H4 HID or only the NISSAN H4 HID? Also can regular H4 bulb be retrofit to be use in the our housing? Thanks all.

I have a 2k2 Maxima HID kit.... The d2r bulbs will not fit into the 9004 housing with out some type of adapter on the bulb. Also the the beam pattern with the d2r bulbs in a 9004 housing is very bad, worse than my 9004 HID hanabi bulbs. I would suggest that you save up and get some projectors, or switch your headlight to a true H4 housing.

well, i agree that the "adapter" was a little ring that i used to put it in the housing before putting in the bulb...not made it fit nicely...

but the beam pattern isn't that bad on mine...

I just drove mecca's car yesterday & he's got the hanabai 9004 kit & his lighting was all over the place... i think the people on the second floor of their apartments were getting blinded...

did you adjust the headlights all the way down towards the bumper?? That made a big difference in mine....

It would be really cool for you to do that. I've had my factory 5th gen HID set-up for a while now. I just havent gotten around to fitting them on yet. Maybe this will be an excuse for me to get up off my a$$ and do it.

The HID bulb in 5th gen maxima's is not an H4... its a d2r.. With OEM hids, there are two types of bulbs, cars with projectors use d2s (which is also what just about all aftermarket kits use) and there are d2r, which are made for reflector housings, such as the ones in the 5th gen. (I'm 99% sure on this)

I think the better question to ask would be, how do you go about wiring an OEM ballast to rebased d2s bulbs, like the ones that come with the z-max kit, Hanabi, McCulloch, etc. It seems like with all of the aftermarket kits, the weak point is the ballasts, the bulbs occasionally go out but at least they aren't very expensive.

What Brand are most OEM HIDs? Phillips and Hella, correct?

http://www.globalpremier.com/HID.html
Connecting Jacks for Hella or Philips HID Conversion Kits. See instruction for installation

All of this is so confusing. So, if i got just the 5th gen HID kit placed into my 9004 housing, it would:

1.) scatter all over the place like roaches with the lights on
2.) have problems with the wiring

What about the whole headlight & HID kit itself?

And globalpremier.com? Buy the ballast and regular HID bulbs for cheap? arg.
