Our cars are old, PERIOD
BOSS quit talking out of your ***...Nissan was rated below General Motors for reliability in the most recent JD Power listing (problems per 100 cars). The only two Japanese car companies rated above average were Toyota and Honda and their respective luxury brands. The others were fairly compatible with the domestic brands. Go check it out yourself.
EDIT: BTW Korean brands are at the bottom along with Land Rover, although Hyundai has risen in quality in recent years. Not the domestics.

that's a lot of mileage." really irritate me.
so, like I stated in a previous thread, 20k miles per year is considered average nowdays for a sedan vehicle like a Maxima. Since it's a 99, which has been around for some 5.5 years, even the mileage of (5.5 * 20) or 110k would be considered average for that car.
Now, I don't want to sound like an a$$, but many 4th gen orgers don't realize that our cars are OLD. Now someone's going to say "that depends on what u consider old cause my brother had an 85 chevy
).
NO, our cars are old in the sense that structual components are meant to give out and people here are often amazed that something, or perhaps many things, have recently been repaired/replaced in their say 97 SE. HELLO! That's an 8 year-old car people! My point is very clear - people often misjudge their car's performance, looks, and problems simply because they don't realize how old their car actually is. I own a 99 and JESUS it's already 5 years old. Those with 95's, your cars are approx. 10 years old - just a reality check.

OK, all I can say about this entire thread is ROTFLMAO! oh my god people, it started out as a thread just to show that some of us drive old cars and we're proud of it, but turned into....well.....umm...how do you describe what it turned into?
Here's my $0.02, I picked up a max because I liked the look of it. After hanging with some of the crew from around here, mostly consisting of civics & integras, I decided I wanted to do up my max because I believed it to have more styling than most of their cars. To this day, I still believe it. I love my max and I'm proud to drive it!
Right now my '95 still looks fairly stock(although I have a ****load of parts coming for it now
) and when I go to shows, people are always asking me if its a 2000+.
Almost everyone that comes on here is proud of their max and they should be! Our cars are still getting comments when they look stock when a lot of cars don't get a second look. If I see a max regardless of year, I always look at it, stock or not, I like the look of them. Does anyone here take a second look at a stock Chev Cavalier or Sunfire, how about a stock Hyundai Accent?
My point is most of us are still driving this car because we love them. So quit complaining about how long they should last - vs - how many km's you can put on them and just drive them!
I'm done my rant

That's because the most recent Nissans are made in the USA...that is, many 99+ Nissans began production in the USA, whereas it was mostly Japan before. And like I said earlier, even the new Maximas are, for the first time ever, made in the USA - Tennessee. No wonder nissan is now or "recently" rated below GM.
Lastly, who are you to talk about Korean cars that yes, I admit, do suck...don't get me into home-made Geo's, etc.

Also, you claim that "The only two Japanese car companies rated above average were Toyota and Honda" - ummmmmmmmm, yeah, I like "the only two" part because these 2 alone make up nearly half of the US vehicle population

You calling me a newbieBoss you are an idiot. Where do you think your precious reliable Japanese cars are built? Honda Accords, Civics, Toyota Camrys, Corollas all built in America! Shut up with your ignorant flames...believe me I know more about what I am talking about than you do.
Nissans have been built in Tennesse and Mexico for a LONG time now...since the early 80s. Where do you get this retarded information about Nissan only starting production in America recently? Nissan falling behind GM in quality has more to do with GM quality going UP not Nissan quality going down bc of their being built in America. Mazda, Mitsubishi, Subaru, etc....all are average and on par with Domestic makes.BTW Geos are Japanese not Korean...Suzukis and Toyotas to be exact. And Geos were never considered unreliable. Congratulations you owned yourself on all counts.
Actually, I don't know about other cars, but the maxima was made in Japan until the 2004 model year. Yep, that's right....the 6th gen was the first max to be made in the US. We will see if that is a doom to the popular and flagship nissan car, or not.
Actually, they only started making the Maximas in the US last year....in Tennessee.
I think that's what he's talking about.
Although I'm fairly sure the Sentra and Altima have been built here since the mid 80's (Sentra) and early 90's (Altima).....
I'm not the expert on that however. But I do know that the 6th Gen Maxima is made 100% in Tennessee.
And he's right - Geo prism = Toyota Corolla <---Japanese....same body style, engine, trim, and everything.

All Maximas were made in Japan until 2004 you complete moron! hahahahahaha
Same goes for many other, not all, Nissans...OMG just shut up and go hide under a table, wacking yourself over the head with something hard from time to time for being so retarded. ...and Maximas were NEVER made in Mexico - what a dork! - you got a lot of reading and catching up to do cause you just made a complete fool of yourself you jack@ss.... buahahahaha
Also, not just nissans, but toyotas, mazdas, hondas and most other foreign cars were for the longest time made in Japan
up until recently Take BMW for instance where 80% of models are still made and assembled in Germany.
Now sit down!

my 97 has really surprised me. after all this time, all the miles, and all the rough riding, she holds up like new. I have been the only owner of the chariot and i dont feel bad at all about paying for the brand new price tag.
On another note, im not really sure where the new designs are coming from. Our 4th gen is really a classic and one beauty !
It also says alot about the maxima, when I drive 135 miles to a track, race like a fool, and drive back another 135 miles and park my maxima that has 151,000 miles on the engine.

Master of the obvious...do you think you are telling me something new by saying Maximas have always been built in Japan and are only now being built in America? My argument is that you are blaming this ONE model line suddnely getting built in America for GM passing Nissan in quality which is ridiculous. And at the time GM passed Nissan in quality the Maxima (as well as the Titan/Armada/Quest) were not being built in the new Canton Mississippi plant yet so just shut up. The Maxima was still being built in Japan at the time of GM passing Nissan. So now what's your excuse? I NEVER said the Maxima was built in America or Mexico...I was saying there were Nissan models. BOSS did you ever think that unreliability could be due to faulty engineering? or maybe faulty parts supplied by 3rd parties to the car companies (Hitachi anyone?). Pull your head out of your a$$ it doesn't matter too much where the car is put together...there are other much more important factors.

yeah 4th gens are now like 3rd gens were a couple of years ago..
i remember i bought my 93 SE for like 7k just about 4 years ago and felt it was a good deal at the time.. now it's worth nothing..
i got my 98 for 10.5k in 2001 and my 97 SE for 7k in 2002...
i know the value of these cars..
what annoys me most is when people are still thinking their sh-t is worth a lot.
Like some people in the maxima for sale forum.. selling 97 SEs with like 100k miles for 8500..
get real.. the car is worth around 6,500 at most... not even probably..
but for the value they have..
4th gens are the best cars for the $$$ hands down.

What a post...I would personally ,would prefer to buy a car made in Japan...However , most new cars have more features than they had 10 years ago : emission & safety ,ABS and traction systems...and those are only a few examples...And those things may have problems once in the while...Even if they are made by good manufacturers known for their reliabilty. It s quite easy to find out what people say about their cars if you check Edmunds.com . (BTW the Maxima 4 th gen has awesome comments) .So far, the 4 th gen Max was a great car , and I m happy to own one ,even the car is getting OLD(er).

Oh ok like I didn't know this either...I am stating the FACT that the most reliable cars being made by Honda and Toyota are in fact being put together in America. And again Honda like Nissan has been producing cars in America since the 80s.
No. You sit down.
Ludacris, you are pathetic...your arguments suck. It's pointless for me to continue this nonsense, especially with a person like you, who pulls stats out of his a$$. In the end, your argument fails because regardless of what you think, those "foreign" cars which are being built in America are not foreign anymore, where foreign, as we all assume, means specifically made over seas.
The fact of the matter is that great cars that were built in Japan have always been built in Japan, and not partially here or partially there. That is exactly why great performance vehicles were always made in Japan simply because have these been made here, they wouldn't be great anymore. I think the 4th gen is a sweet ride and has the potential to hold looks for a long time. And all the hard drving ive done considered, its holding up really well.
Unless I get lucky and make a ton of $$$ in the next couple years (and can then buy new) it makes alot of sense to me to drive it until the engine dies (another 4 years at least, I would think) and then get a used engine from japan with 30K miles on it...and its off to the races again baby!!
After all, its not rattling that much
and Im faster than alot of Bimmers
EDIT:
PS. 109K miles and pushing about 200 at the wheels. More to come too!!

I don't care how old MAXeen is, I'm keeping her and continuing to mod until I land some helluva job and can import a Skyline.
lol That will be no time in the near future, so I will stay with my *old* a$s Maxima and love it like it's brand spankin new.

A comment to say to you, Boss, has to do with them being made in Japan. I think that "Japanese Process" can be preserved in the US. It will be hard, but I think it is possible. The reason that the Japanese-built cars are so tough is because of their regulations and process of assembly. If that same theology can come over here and be commanding the assembly of cars in the US, I think the cars will remain with the same amount of quality and longevity.
DoGGy, when you can afford to pay a mechanic full-time to live in your house, then you can say Aston Martin for life. ha ha ha

1. I must spell this out for you one more time. I never said Maximas were built in America and Mexico. I said GM passed Nissan in overall initial quality. NOTE THE WORD "NISSAN" NOT "MAXIMA". Did I say GM passed Maxima in initial quality? Would that even make sense? Anyways, then you said it due to the fact that the Maxima was being built in America (what kind of argument is that???). And I said Nissans have been built in America and Mexico since the 80s (fact) and have still been able to stay reliable. I never once said the Maxima was built here. But you can continually flame me and attack me for it since it's the only thing you think you have on me

2. If the Foreign cars that are built in America are not foreign anymore and are still bulletproof reliable then you just backed up my whole argument genius. My whole argument was that a car can be built in America and still be reliable whereas you keep saying any car built in America is automatically unreliable.

3. "The fact of the matter is that great cars that were built in Japan have always been built in Japan, and not partially here or partially there. That is exactly why great performance vehicles were always made in Japan simply because have these been made here, they wouldn't be great anymore"
You are seriously the biggest ricer ever. You realize everyone of the cars you listed was a LIMITED PRODUCTION run...nothing like the hundreds of thousands of cars that Honda, Toyota or Nissan build here. Think about it...if Honda keeps building the cars over there...hundreds of thousands and has to ship them all over here do you realize how much that would cost? So what would be the point in say...Toyota shipping parts over here to build the Supra when they will only sell a few thousand cars? They probably figured that it would be more economically feasible to build them in Japan! You're such an idiot!!! "They won't be great anymore" ahahhahahahahaha
4. Every fact I am throwing at you is from a reputable source and is something I have read. Did you even know about the Nissan recall that was really Hitachi's fault? Of course not. Your arguments on the other hand are a bunch of opinions and insults.
I hope people are actually reading what you are saying and what I am saying...and it seems that way since again no one is agreeing with you but you. You continually make yourself out to be a huge fool and make it too easy for me to get you. Thanks a lot man!
Can't we all just get along...lol. But on the real, it seems like all of this pointless arguement ids drifting away from the topic. Ludacris, i for one am with you on this one and i see what you are talkin about. all the arguments are unnecessay and immature. BOSS, i def. agree with you too about our cars being old. I feel as though ppl shouldnt bash every statement, becuas ethe person may just be ignorant not stupid. everyone is ignorant but to bash someone for that i wack. this is a forum not a talk show. Let's just stick to the issues and discuss what ppl say not flame or bash them about it. If someone is mistaken, just correct them. I am proud to own my Max becuase i'm only a high school student and am happy to be driing something. My car can have as many mods as a honda or Acura and i'll still get more street regonotion and props, just for being a maxima. I know that my car is old but I belive that it's all in how you look at things. i plan to keep my car till it dies. My $.02.
About the 03 and 04 Accords ,I agree with Brudaddy...The new Accord are nice ,and they do feel good on the road...I pushed the Max to run next to an 04 V6 ,automatic ,and I was surprised to see how fast is the Accord gaining speed...So far,at this point it s hard to beat the Max as a price & value (4 the gen) ,where you get an awesome v6 engine. The new Accords are nice but they are not cheap ...
