i think i have been underating the power of auto maxima and overratin 5spd acura GS-R

bored as usual, so i surf around honda-tech. some of you know my buddy dlo_azn who used to own a 87 maxima, now a 99 gs-r 5spd. we've been through major stage of modding together and i always felt his car is faster than mine, especially when it kicks into vee-tek. anywayZ after my own dyno with the norcal guys i have came up with some of my own analysis on automagic 4th gen maxima vs. b18c1 gs-r 5spd:

consider the follow under normal condition: (simple wheel horpose power comparison)
stock 4th gen auto: around 145 WHP
stock b18c1 gs-r 5spd: around 140WHP

now with few basic bolt ons:
4th gen auto with intake/y-pipe/catback: around 165 WHP
b18c1 gs-r 5spd with intake/header/catback: around 160WHP

i just generalized those numbers from couple similar modification of the dyno. i say it's a close race. i know the 5spd can take on gs-r no problem, but i just wanna share with you guys that auto will make a close race, and don't overrate vee-tek.

as far as torque...we all know who is the winnder

A GS-R is like 2700 lbs or less though, vs a 3100lb auto 4g Max. Power to weight.

i know i know... but just wanna say that it'll be a close race. it's just that....vee-tek is often overrated. i don't like that.

I doubt it will be a close race. 100lb weight advantage in a 1/4 mile race is equal to around .1s.

- heavier by 60 lbs
- 5% less power at the wheels
- much taller overall gearing
- net result: auto = 0.5-1.0 sec slower than manual in the 1/4 mile

you also have to factor in torque.

and also at what rpms is the gsr making 160 whp. If its at 8000 rpm and your making it at 4000 rpm, kiss his a$$ goodbye. Peak horsepower isn't everything.

B series is okay for what it is but a better comparison is a 4th gen (93-96) Vtec Prelude (H22a1)

Kevin you just joking about "vee-tek" Right?

P.S. Has the RSTB Been shipped?

Thanks.

yea...i was j/k about vee-tek. honda VTEC is a very respectful technology, although sometimes being overrated, but still good stuff

Don't mean to change the topic, but I notice your doing some serious work...I'd like to see pictures of the completion if possible. I also notice you have projector headlights on the ground next to the front of your ride...where did you get them or did you do it yourself?

I don't know I took a stock GSR with my max when I just had an intake on. But we are going slightly uphill. Also I took a new prelude but it was auto and the guy had some **** done to it, with 17", I had y-pipe and intake.

just to night's ago at the track I Shat all over a gsr with dc header, aem intake, high flow cat, cat back, and aem cam gears. I ran a 14.7 at 93.6 with a 2.29 60 footer, compared to his 15.1. But i'm a decent driver and I have a 5 speed. Hope it helps.

i am 5 speed and i raced another 5 speed gsr and we have about the same mods done and we were pretty even but i pulled in 2nd gear against him and he was right on my back bumper but we had to slow down we only got up to 80mph. i think wit an auto max it would be dead even or the max might still pull u can never underestimate our torque

Great but still, it's like throwing your money away. The rstb just takes away trunk space.

Is he buying it from you? In that case that's a must have mod, your car will feel like a M3 now.

Put a passenger in the GSR and watch the POWER to WEIGHT ratio go off by 500%

With those 2 cars it comes down to one thing...DRIVER!!!
I have beaten GS-R's in a stock 93 Accord only cause I wasn't scared to redline it. I will say that a GS-R with minimum interior is a pretty lethal car.

GS, RS, DX, EX, SX, FX,XLE, SLE, GS-R, TYPE Rice, TYPE S. TYPE SE, Type VTEC. i-vtec.
NONE OF THESE SCARE ME !!!
and i dont give a $h!t whats under the hood. racing is all about puttin it to the ground and using it wisely. anything can happen during a race.

btw did i mention models from another manufacturer? opps..... too many to memorize. AHH WTF ! they all look the same

Big D: You really like to jump the gun don't you...

I purchased the RSTB NOT for Handling (seeing as I have a set of Toser Damper Adjustable Coilovers for that purpose) But rather a Cosmetic Modification and the fact that the RSTB is a uncommon mod.

would a rstb make a big difference if you didnt have a rsb? i have both.but put them on at the same time so i cant tell..

whats wrong with a cosmetic mod.. better than littering the paint with stickers or a 3ft wing.. let him customize his max the way he wants.

i've been driving my max without RSTB for almost a week now. my rear end felt a bit sloppy, but not too much. so yea... personally i felt a slight difference.

but once my shocks are in and lowered on maxspeed...then it'll be a day and night difference in handling i am looking forward to that.
