Car shakes after 60mph

I have had terrible shaking in the steering wheel after 50mph but had my rear tires changed yesterday because they were shot. I am still getting heavy vibrations in the wheel after 60mph. Does anyone know what this could be caused by? The tires were rotated and balanced but it doesn't seem to have made much of a differance. HELP PLEASE !!!!!!!!!

When I got new rims and tires they were balanced before they were put on. I got the steering wheel shakes on the hwy at 60 mph so I went back to my tire dealer, told them my problem and they rebalanced them again. Problem solved.

try to get your tires balanced using the "road force machine" it made wonders for me - two out of 4 brand new Falken ziex 512 tires that i had put on were out of round and the machine helped to make them round and there is no more shaking at 50-60mph , aligment might help too.

Nick.

My cousin just went through this with his '95 Jetta. It seemed to be the consensus that it's a tire/balance problem and not an alignment problem.

He got his tires balanced (again) and it cleared right up.

Doing a wheel alignment will not have any effect on the vibration problem. Doing a wheel alignment on our cars is mearly adjusting the front toe, done by moving the outer tie rod ends. If your alignment is out it will cause excessive outer edge tire wear and or steering wheel to be off center, or drift/pull problems.

Just wanted to clarify the common missconception that wheel alignments take care of vibration problems.

Good info. It's amazing how much misinformation is passed around, like the monday morning qb Brett Favre commercial. Just goes to show how the auto repair business has people trained to spend $$$ unnecessarily when there is something wrong with their car.

Drove upstate this afternoon and at about 80mph I feel my car shaking and I had bad warpped Roters for a couple of weeks and finally changed them tonight. $45 at a SUNOCO on Coney Island Ave.

When driving back I test it out at 80mph and no more SHAKING!

Hope this helps.
